My nearly three-year-old H5455 iPAQ is having yet another issue--I have had a broken sync port, broken button board and now I am having to realign the screen every time I turn it on--and I am quickly coming to the conclusion that I need a new device. I want a high-end device with VGA, lots of memory, SD slot, etc. What would you recommend? I just got a new cell phone so I am not looking for a converged device.

I was thinking of the x51v; however, I absolutely detest how the stylus is housed. It's very difficult to get out.

Really? I don't have a problem with it. I agree it's not in the most natural spot, but I got used to it pretty quickly.

Yeah, I helped an office colleague buy an X50v and I dread helping her out with the thing because I can never get the stylus out. Maybe I just need some practice

You just need to quit biting your fingernails. I find that snagging the little tab with the nail is the trick.

Ha! That's so true. I don't actually bite my nails, but I like to keep them pretty short.

X50v maybe good for the price since your fav appz might not yet run on WM 5 machines (X51)

Loox 720 is a good choice if you don't care about the money...

I would stay away from hx4700 although I loved it before, I just don't like it's " virtual D-pad " and only 5 hardware buttons compare to 6 on the Dell.
Oh yeah, the hardware button on the side on the 4700 is too far for my finger while in landscape mode.

no offence to 4700 user, just my opinion

I'd also get the Pocket Loox 720. It has a definitely better screen (especially in landscape) and a MUCH better battery than the x50v. It also has other goodies like the 128M RAM, the additional HW buttons, the camera etc.

Isn't it not available in the US though?

That's correct. I tried looking for it in their US online store. No go.

Yup, officially it isn't. However, it's imported by one or two firms.

Look around in http://www.firstloox.org//forums/forumdisplay.php?f=54 - there're several threads on the American importers of the PL720.

The reason I'd go for a loox is that is has a USB host and a VGA screen.

Another vote for the Loox 720. I purchased mine directly from England (from Clove Technology). Excellent service etc. Very pleased with the machine.

When I first start to look for a VGA device, I really want to go for A730W or Loox for their screen, USB Host, Camera, and 128MB of RAM. However, I eventually decide that I will go for Dell for the following reasons:
1. Both device are hard to get in US. Besides, the price is popping my eyes out. Eventually, I got my x50v for at least $250-$300 cheaper than Loox and Asus
2. After the announcement of WM 5, I realize that the memory configuration of two device is not ideal for the persistant storage. However, I really want WM 5 and dell happens to be offering free upgrade and the device has 128MB of ROM.
3. Since VGA device requires lots of processing power, I like x50v's 624mhz processor better. Also, The 3D graphic chip is worth the checking out. Now with TCPMP, x50v can play high quality videos VERY smoothly.

In conclusion, you might want to go for Loox if you don't care about WM5 or the price. If you want WM5, x51v will be the best device for you since it has 256MB of rom vs. Loox's 64MB of ROM.

Well, I'd say the situation isn't that dire, flash ROM size-wise - after upgrading to WM5, you will still have 20+ Mbytes of available ROM. That's enough for installing almost anything (if you also use the storage cards, as before).

I went through what you are currently going through, and I started with the Dell X50v, but the 4" VGA screen on the iPAQ HX4700 is what convinced me to finally get the 4700. I sold the Dell, and am truly enjoying the iPAQ 4700. Just the screen alone is worth the price... and no one other than HP has the beautiful 4" screen.

Beautiful screen, ugly device, and big taboot. You decide which is more important :)

I have to agree with PetiteFlower. The device is far too big, ugly, and pricey to impress me. 4 inch screen doesn't really made any difference to me since my eyes aren't than bad and the resolution is the same.
