We already knew that the device sports an Intel XScale 416MHz processor, 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM, a 2MP digital camera with flash, an integrated FM radio, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support, USB, a 240 x 320 (QVGA) screen, and Windows Mobile 5.0. Now Singapore site, PPCSG, is reporting that the Atom (which is roughly the same size as the HTC Magician) features a miniSD slot, not an SD slot (as some of you originally hoped).

PPCSG has a collection of hands-on pictures that are worth checking out. Note the O2 MediaPlus application has a Windows Media Center-like feel to it. If all goes to plan, the Atom should be released in early December.

Sweet! This looks like the Pocket PC Phone I've been waiting for...too bad I just bought a new cell phone. :(

OMG! <Drool> 8O

Gotta save now! If you have been using the previous O2 Mini, this would be an excellent unit to upgrade to!

Based on comparison pictures the Atom seems considerably *smaller* than the Jam.

I think that I read the Atom has a 2.7 screen as opposed to the 2.8.

If I recall correctly, it's not considerably smaller. I'd say there's about 5-6 millimetres difference between the two.

I hope its not considerably smaller. I'm not sure how much smaller I can go for my everyday device. 8O

Every now and then I swap my SIM into my smartphone, but its input mechanism and small size keep me from intense usage.

Rumor has it the O2 Atom is made by Quanta and that HTC will be releasing a similar model of their own codenamed "Prophet". This Pocket PC has all the features I've been wanting for quiet a while now. I'd like it if HTC's version would have a matte finish housing as opposed to the Atom's glossy finish, be it black, white or silver.

I need storage capacity and with miniSD's current limitations, it's just not good enough. Bummer cause it is a sweet looking device with some very nice specs.. Except for the FM radio and miniSD, it's a darn fine device. FM radio? C'mon

What's wrong with FM? I still use it. :P

I just made up my mind, goodbye ETen M600, hello Atom!!!!

Yeah, the only CON I see is the MiniSD card type.

However, I would love to have this device, so it's time to save some coins!!!

I love the radio feature, I still use FM radio a lot!!! I just wish you can use FM radio without the need of the headphones as antenna like the SonyEricsson K700i :?

Cheers!

We're already seeing moves in the PPC space to squeeze down to miniSD, and microSD(/TransFlash) is also out and becoming popular (like in cellphones). So I'm thinking perhaps I should standardize all my future flash card purchases on microSD for the utmost compatibility?

But I have some questions:
http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=43392

I remember seeing a miniSD-to-SD (flush) adapter.

But I don't know if there's a microSD-to-miniSD adapter (though I presume there will be a microSD-to-SD adapter)?

Can someone verify this? I'm thinking about standardizing on purchasing only microSD (was TransFlash) in the future -- or more specifically TrustedFlash-compliant microSD. But I'd like to know if I will be able to use it in cellphones/PDAs that take miniSD?

In fact, if anyone has any links to purchase any of these microSD/miniSD/SD adapters, I'd really appreciate it!

I'll probably wait awhile for microSD capacity to get bumped up though, since I'm currently using 2GB (66X-speed) SD cards and am used to that.

BTW I don't suppose the "USB" listed in the specs is USB Host capability? :D

so are there hi-speed miniSD cards out now? what's the highest capacity miniSD? the highest capacity I've seen in shops here [Manila] is 128mb [which I have for my MPX 220] I may have to go to HK to get some high capacity ones :P

I believe it signifies mini-USB functionality, similar to what is seen in the HTC Magician, Wizard, and Universal. No idea if it supports host, but I'll see if there's any info I can dig up for you.

1GB is readily available in the consumer market, and I believe 2GB is just around the corner.
