Hello,

I have been using my Palm T3 for the past year and it is about time to upgrade. I am thinking about a Pocket PC for the upgrade and dropping Palm. But I have a couple questions I hope you can help me with:

1. Besides outlook synch, address book and the typical PDA stuff, what does Pocket PC add to the mix that PALM does not?

2. How much business work can you do on the pocket pc (again I cannot do anything worthwhile on my palm with regards to memos, email (office uses Lotus Notes), etc.

3. What is the must have software to make a pocket PC even better?

4. How is it surfing the web with wireless LAN? Do the webpages appear correctly on the small displays or must you constantly scroll right to see what you are missing?

5. What is a good, WI-FI model to buy that is not outdated but I do not need top of the line either.

Thanks for the help and feedback.

I just went from a T3 to a X50V myself. Kind of expensive, both in hardware and software. Hardware costs were offset a bit via eBay sales of Palm stuff! I can do anything on the X50V that I can do on the T3, and vice-versa. Some of it is performed a bit differently; most is not significantly different. Obviously, the X50V has built-in WiFi, a CF slot in addition to the SD slot, full-time VGA, a 624MHZ processor, +++ that the T3 does not. Bottom line is that I am glad I switched for the hardware, but prefer the Palm OS. If only there was a competitive Palm PDA. There's good software pages on most of the forums, http://www.tankerbob.com/palm/index.htm has my favorite starting point. I posted my current software inventory into a thread just today. http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=119762 WM2003 2nd ed is generally more complex to deal with than the Palm OS when considering installation, backup, recovery, customization, and so forth. General usability day-in/day-out is about the same.

Speaking of TankerBob, you may wish to take a look at this series of articles from him at Mobile Tech Review -

http://www.mobiletechreview.com/editorials/Palm_to_PPC_1.htm

As he explains his own personal migration to Pocket PC from Palm. I found the series a very useful backgrounder as I considered the move myself.
The only 'complaint' I may have with it (now that I'm here) is his comparative lack of reference to freeware programs that can do what he describes retail programs he's using and his failure to mention that Outlook 2002 (as that comes with every PDA) sucks badly - especially when used to Palm Desktop.
