Your best bet is to download the Pocket PC 2003 SDK from Microsoft and use the PPC emulator.

Here you go. :)

• Standalone Device Emulator (Community Preview): http://msdn.microsoft.com/mobility/windowsmobile/downloads/emulatorpreview/default.aspx
• Windows Mobile 2003 Emulator Images: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=57265402-47a8-4ce4-9aa7-5fe85b95de72&DisplayLang=en

Or to save the trouble of downloading it all, you can order the Windows Mobile 5.0 Developer Evaluation Kit (http://msdn.microsoft.com/mobility/windowsmobile/howto/resourcekit/default.aspx) - though you may still need to download the Windows Mobile 2003 / 2003 Second Edition images if you wish to work with those platforms.

A lot of the .NET apps can run on the desktop - with some limitations - such as database access, etc.

It's really worthwhile ordering this - mainly because its free. All you have to pay for are shipping charges. The DVD includes everything you need to develop applications for WM5.0, including Visual Studio Beta, which you wouldn't otherwise be able to get without a (pricey) subscription to MSDN.

FYI The emulator will only run applications built for it. You can not run a generic ARM/XSCALE application from your PocketPC on the emulator.
