Clearing the server

How can I clear messages from my pop & imap servers? I hate downloading them everytime I log in.

your mail client should have a setting to remove items from server after they have been downloaded. In fact, it's usually the standard default setting for POP. IMap servers usually keep everything until you ask them to purge deleted items, at which point things are removed.
