Is there any information about the first WM5 devices that will ship, and when they will be available on the market?

Rumour is OEM versions of the HTC Universal will surface around the end of September. In terms of upgrades for existing devices, the iPAQ hx2000 and hx4700 series should receive the upgrade late summer - so maybe anytime this month or next month. The Axim X50/X50v will probably receive it around October. The LOOX 718 and 720 series will also receive it around Q4, 2005.

?? Around the 4th quarter? I thought it was in Sept. I guess I am wrong...

The English one is - that's slated for a September 14 release. I was simply making reference to all the upgrades (English, German, French, Spanish, and Italian). The timeline for those is around Q4, 2005.

Any news on WM5 phones other than the Universal (which has fantastic specs but I fear is just too big for me)? I've seen Q1 2006 quoted for the Wizard - seems strange that it would be months after the Universal. Others?

The Eten M500 (already out) is slated to get the WM5 upgrade soon.

Thanks. It looks quite nice but I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting faster data than that provided by GPRS. I'd also like more assurance of WM5 than 'according to unofficial information, it is really in the pipeline'.

Its thought to be a pretty sure thing.

Hi Raphael,

Thanks for your support on M500 & follow-ups on Eten's development.

On behalf of Eten, I am here to confirm Eten will offer the option of upgrade to WM5.0 at the buyer's cost and the availability (varies from each language) is to be advised. The upgrade purchase will go thru our authorized Distributors; therefore, the constraint will also be if the Distributor will stock up for local market as Eten currently doesn't have the infrastructure for on-line ordering the upgrade.

I have passed your feedback onto our R&D team and will also proceed to post the news of upgrade on our website.

Thanks again for your continuing supports.

Best regards,

A Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade will be made available for the M500. I received word of this officially from E-TEN a couple of months ago.

Thanks for the info. Still want faster data though, either Wifi or (preferably) UMTS.
