View Full Version : How come Pocket Gear always shows the wrong date on the screen?

I was just wondering, as no matter how often I update the page, clean out the temps and cookies and enter through different links, I see the wrong date. It now shows "Friday, July 15 2005."

Is this a general problem (ie, not mine) or is my PC trying to confuse me?

I just dropped in over there. Says

"Friday, August 5, 2005 | 18,677 Windows Mobile for Pocket PC software submitted to date"

Looks right to me.

I get

Friday, July 15, 2005 | 18,677 Windows Mobile for Pocket PC software submitted to date My Account | Developers | View Cart | Help

on two different laptops.

I know Spain is a little behind the times, but I didn't think it was like this.

Aha, now I know.

The date on the screen depends on the date on your own PC's calendar. Mine was wrong, hence the difference. Now I know this I can make every visit to Pocket Gear seem like Christmas Day.

I live and learn.

Yeah - many websites use client-side Javascript to render the date.

Interesting footnote: a number of sites suffered from a Y2K bug due to poor use of Javascript. There's a year function that returns the number of years since 1900. Lazy website designers concatenated the string "19" to the year. When Y2K came around, those websites showed "19100". The correct thing to have done, of course, was to add 1900 to the number returned by the Javascript function.
