<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.starlinesoftware.com/SpiderUI.htm' target='_blank'>http://www.starlinesoftware.com/SpiderUI.htm</a><br /><br /></div><i>"The SpiderUI is a navigational control that is designed for Pocket PC applications. This control is lightweight and provides quick responses by decreasing the number of "clicks" up to 50% compared to the current menu architecture."</i><br /><br /> <img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/westfall-20050719-spiderui.png" /> <br /><br />Well, it isn't often that a new navigational control sharing its name with an arachnid shows up, so why not share it. All kidding aside, this looks pretty cool as an intuitive way to navigate. The main topic sits in the middle, and the sub commands or options fan out (Sorta like a mind map), the user uses the D-pad to move to the option they want. I suppose you could like multiple Spiders together to form a web, which would be a neat and novel way to spice up your app!

This is basically the same navigation metaphor used on the Tapwave Zodiac. It looks simple, but it can be annoying to use because it is designed for the lowest common denominator in consumers who lack computing skills.

Simple isn't always better.

Simple isn't always better.
Yes it is.

1. Simple is Zen
2. Zen is better.
3. Therefore, simple is better.

I know this because I have been told it a bazillion times.

Does using this thing mean giving up Wisbar Advance 2, custom skins and Pocket Breeze for the Today screen? I've worked too hard customizing my PPC to change interfaces now.

Most likely not. This is a control for developers to buy if they'd like to implement it in their programs. It isn't a new universal navigation product for PPC.
