At first, only a Palm OS build was made available, although all that has changed since you can now also get your hands on a functional Windows Mobile build (Pocket PC and Smartphone). This popular open-source media player will allow you to play all sorts of audio and video files (the file compatibility list can be found here), which is great if you've been searching for an all-in-one mobile media player. It looks and feels just like the old BetaPlayer, so you won't have to get used to a new interface all over again. Best of all, TCPMP is free, and can be downloaded from here.
Still no subtitles.

Should I be replacing my BetaPlayer with this one?????
It is a renamed and newer version of Betaplayer. Possibly to reflect imminent non-beta status.

In short, if you want to stay updated, then yes, it'd be a good idea to upgrade.
The latest build of TCPMP has a few enhancements over BetaPlayer 0.5.

If you read what is said on the website. TCPMP does not support the intel graphics chip (2700G) when using WMV.
WMP10 support (WMA/WMV) (except on devices with 2700G)

Embedded subtitles, yes. Subtitles stored in a separate .srt text file, no.
Currently, I have to burn the subs onto the video stream in order to watch them on the Pocket PC.

While Betaplayer IS a horrible name, who really thinks that "The Core Pocket Media Player"..... or TCPMP is a better one??

I've spoken with some who prefer BetaPlayer, and others who prefer TCPMP. So it's a lose-lose situation.
Bottom line is the program's functionality is great, although the current build of TCPMP is a bit buggy for me at the moment. :(
Don't Panic!

Wmv works on X50vs if you click on options then video and switch from Intel 2700g to Raw FrameBuffer. You can also take screenshots with resco in that mode.
