View Full Version : Imageer locks up with a few thousand 1k bmps - alternatives?

I bought WebIS's 3D icon pack yesterday and discovered that Spb Imageer has issues with loading thousands of bmp files that are in the 1k - 2k range.

Has anyone else noticed this, and can they recommend an image viewer (I only really need bmp support at this time) that will not attempt to preload every image in a directory? The ability to view the thumbnails of a screenful of images at a time and only load further thumbnails on demand (like Pocket Informant's icon selector does) combined with the ability to go to the next/previous image in a directory are desirable. I'd use PI's icon selector for this, but I find that it scales all images by a certain percent, regardless of size.

Have you tried Resco's image viewer already? I don't know for sure if it can handle what you're describing but to me, Resco would be the second best image viewer out there behind Spb Imageer.

No, I haven't tried it. But I discovered that Spb Diary's icon picker works nicely for this. It doesn't resize the icons at all (unlike Pocket Informant's category editor/icon picker) and at least gives the spinning circle when it's loading the previews but it does have to reload the entire directory every time I access it. With 1,969 icons in that directory, a game of Spb Freecell kills that (rather long) time nicely.

Same thing happened to me when I was trying to look at iLauncher icons. Just froze. Then I tried to launch it again after it froze and from resetteing my PPC. It forze again. So I had to unistall it. So now I am using Resco Photo Veiwer. its really nice too, even comes with a screen capture utility. :)
