While subscribers have had access to XM Online for free since April of this year, those of us who have wanted to listen on our Pocket PCs have been out of luck. Now a site has popped up that uses your XM Online login to form the correct streaming URL so that you can listen to XM Online through Windows Media Player! I've been playing with it for a few minutes and have no problems to report. Unfortunatly, streaming over GPRS is still a bit shakey. I guess you can't always get everything you want :)

I've been streaming over wifi now for a while... it's working great! I did have a few problems initially connecting - a pre-recorded voice would tell me that "the XM channel you're trying to receive is temoprarily unavailable... please log out and try again." But once I was connected, it was working great! I can see a lot of potential uses for me... the 'show off' value for my hx4705 just went up a notch!

It would be nice to see some info on the music that is playing. Also, I cannot get any channel beyond 116. I am given an error message that says "Cannot play the file because the playlist is not valid".

Any suggestions?

Wow, this is so cool! It figures that XM radio would come out with something like this...

I want to get Sirius for some of the channels it offers that XM doesn't have, so I can't go with XM. Bummer. XM has the cooler hardware and much better portable units. Now there is a way to stream XM to your PPC!

C'mon Sirius! Get with the program!

Before I try this...is there any chance someone is getting my username and password for xm. Doesn't that also give them access to my creditcard information on xm's site?

I wonder if someone could do the same for Sirius streaming radio. Their site requires the use of flash to login and start listening to the stream...

Couldn't wait for this one.... I hooked it up and am listening as I type. It was a snap and since I am on a Lan line it is fast as true as can be. I vote also for the ability to see what channels are playing what how many. But it does say beta so I am expecting great things in the near future.

Actually, I don't think its XM Radio that did this. It sounds like a third party web site someone set up that, as Jon said, simply forms the correct streaming URL info.

I think you can set different passwords for the XM ecare site and the XM Online site.

I'm using PIEplus and wasn't able to login into the site, getting message that browser invalid.
It's only compatible with standard pocket pc browser.

Is there any way to de-activate PIEplus withour un-installing it ?

Awesome! Now, if I could just get a stream for the talk radio channels, like ESPN Radio. Anyone? Thanks.

Yup! I did just that. And it works great! But I still feel like someone, somewhere will be using my xm account to listen to XM thru the internet. I'd feel more secure if XM offered this directly. Maybe they'll buy it from them or just sue them and offer it themselves.

Now I dont need a radio built into my PPC! :D

I use PiePlus and it works fine. You have to make sure the browser is being seen as PIE and not seen as IE6. If you go under the options for PiePlus (tap the blue cross), you will see a tab called PIE. Make sure the identification is set for Identify as PIE. It should work then.

I believe the creator of the program is associated with www.XM411.com which is where I found out about the link and e-mailed the site.

There is also a program on that forum that creates a viewer where you can see what is playing on any of the XMOnline channels. You can see all the channels or select the ones you want. It creates a box? that can float on your screen with your selections. It's really a cool little app. It will download an exe file that you have to run when you execute it but it works really well.

The program is located in the first sticky thread on the main forum page. It's called XM411 Now Playing.

guess the server is loaded...

I just signed up since I now have a reason to, but it's rush hour here and I have been unable to get past "buffering 0%" on the PC using either Mozilla or IE6.

Looks like the channels are limited on the desktop as well... not only that, they are numbered differently.

Working and connected on the mobile, but only on low speed setting... comedy channel sounds as good as or better than from the radio.

Have yet to get audio on the PC.... things mobile are getting better.

In case it helps, have posted a channel list of the current "online" channels in plain text and simple html table format for the ppc.

fwiw, it seems that "talk" and "news" channels which were the primary reason for me to subscribe, are significantly limited... only two out of the ten or so I normally listen to are available online. Notice also that there are no "sports" channels either.

Yeah, I'm not sure why they don't make all their channels available. Not everyone cares just about music ;)

As a side note to all..... I was talking to a developer that is making an XM plug-in for BetaPlayer (soon to be The Core Pocket Media Player). He snapped a few screenshots of what he has done so far for me and is going to release an alpha next week. I'll follow-up with a link when he provides that to me.

Wow, cool little page! :D I found myself able to use the high (64 kbps) bandwidth stream on my Treo 700w even in an area without EVDO coverage.

I understand those who miss the artists/song titles, but I hope they keep this from hogging too much bandwidth. There are other apps out there with that information out there for those who want them.

I'm more interested in "talk" radio as I have my mp3 player for music. Because I have such a long commute to work I really want to listen to radio now and than without the static and lose of signal on the trains..

If I find one of the satellite stations that has what I like to listen too....is there anyway to save it and listen like a week at a time somehow??????

Hi, I found out this website, but I am worried if it is safe and will it steel my credit card information or other personal things?
