Of relevance to Pocket PCs is the DivX Create Bundle which features an application called DivX Converter. It's a one step drag-and-click application which will convert MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DivX, XviD, DV, AVI, WMV and AVS files to a DivX file that works great in BetaPlayer (the size and quality of the re-encoded file depends on the profile you select - namely, "Home Theater", "High Definition", "Handheld", and "Portable"). The only problem with these profiles is that they're hard-coded to a specific resolution. "Handheld" is well-below QVGA, and "Portable" outputs at 640x480 (which is great for VGA Pocket PCs, but a little overkill for QVGA Pocket PCs). <!>

Having said all that, DivX Converter probably wouldn't replace the venerable PocketDivXEncoder that so many of you use day after day (especially since the latter is free). But if you happen to own the DivX Create Bundle, then DivX Converter is a nifty thing to have.

Well PocketDivxEncoder doesn't do wmv, I don't think, so if this can do that then I would have some use for it.

Why on Earth would it do WMV? It's a DivX tool.

Dude that's like saying my Ferrari makes it for a useless off road vehicle. Apples and Oranges. But rest assured it makes for a lot of happy, happy people out there.

Have you tried BetaPlayer?

Yeah, try Betaplayer. It is fantastic. It plays DivX, XviD, MPG, WMA, MP3, and many other audio formats.

well, i just watched four episodes of Smallville (sorry, it does take centuries for some episodes/DVDs, etc. to get to Japan) as i took the trip from Tokyo to Okinawa, in BetaPlayer... it is JUST so amazing, especially with my Axim x50v... so amazing, that i contributed a small amount to the author as a means of gratitude...

How is VGA playback on the X50v?

How is VGA playback on the X50v?
Using BetaPlayer, you can do fullscreen VGA playback at 30fps with video bitrate set to 1500kbps video and audio set to 128kbps MP3 stereo (on either the x50v or the hx4700)... in many cases, without ever skipping a frame. Not only that, but I GUARANTEE you that anyone not familiar with PocketPCs will be able to look at the visual clarity of your video and actually believe you're playing a DVD on your PocketPC.

Between the two devices, the x50v has the more powerful graphics processor, so you'll be able to ratchet up the x50v beyond what the hx4700 can handle, which is already a lot!

Ok, how on earth do you get a DVD you own onto my PDA. I have been trying all kinds of stuff and it never works. The files never get converted. Heck I don't even know if I am converting the correct ones. Is there some tutorial?? Help?

The point of this post was to highlight the drag-and-click nature of Converter. AFAIK, Dr. DivX didn't offer that.

Yup, cheers buddy.

yup...

unfortunately with media still being a luxury here in japan - i could only afford to go through 300 kbps 15 fps 44Mhz Stereo.

however, a majority of those that i meet swear/think that i have some kind of pocket TV or some video player-version of the iPod. the quality is just so awesome!!!

PS: i use DVD Studio to do the conversion

Drag and drop ~ click is for people who can't use a computer O_O

Still, I wasn't aware of DivX 6 being released yet... I'm just downloading it now (it'll take a while... On my 14K connection :\)... Interested to see what sort of advantages this offers for HDTV :)

Right... So I can safely assume you've never dragged and clicked something in Windows Explorer before, because such functionality is only intended for people who can't use a computer? Remember, not everyone has the same level of technical expertise as you, or I, or the John Smith that lives around the corner. Some people prefer simplicity over complexity. If that wasn't the case, applications like this wouldn't exist, and quick-and-easy DVD to Pocket PC applications such as Pocket DVD Wizard also wouldn't exist because it's too simple and designed for people who can't use a computer, right?

Well, glad to see you got something out of this thread.

Ha ha ha :D No need to get a bee in your bonnet, old chap...

I'm really not that impressed with DivX 6 overall, to be honest... the "DivX Create" is a massive step backwards from Dr. DivX [for which I am a license owner]... As opposed to Dr. DivX, which was as simple, or advanced, as you wanted it to be, DivX create is.... Just simple. It loses a lot of power functionality that Dr. DivX had :\

Nevermind, though - for those who are interested, you can still take advantage of the DivX 6 codec with Dr. DivX - the best of both worlds!

well, no drag and drop :o
