Spb Imageer or Recso Photo Viewer or...?

Hi to you all,

I need a good photo viewer & editor (only resizing or stronger compressing) for my 2MB photo files. What tool offers the best value for money at this moment?

I've used Imageer since it was released, and have no complaints. It's versitile, and can run well off a storage card. I've really got no experience with the Resco product - anyone else here use it and can comment?

It all depends on how many images you want to resize. If there're well over tens of them, you may want a batch-enabled one. Of the several available Pocket PC-based image viewers/editors, only (!) the free XnView (read my quick review on the latest version here (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/index.php?action=expand,40951&/a_quick_review_of_xnview_pocket_1.31.htm)) is able to do this. You can resize/reconvert in both Spb Imageer and Resco too, but not in batch mode, which makes the entire process very slow.

If you, however, use the desktop-based converter/resizer ActiveSync plug-in of Spb Imageer, everything will go just fine. This, however, requires having access to a desktop computer. (Which is not always the case in-the-field).

Alternatively, you may want to give a try to ImageMagick (http://www.imagemagick.org/script/index.php) if you choose to convert/resize images on the desktop, by using the command

FOR /R %%X IN (*.jpg) DO "C:\Program Files\ImageMagick-6.2.1-Q8\convert.exe" -quality 50 "%%X" "%%X"

Note that Spb Imageer has a memory leak issue with the hx4700. Spb is aware of the issue but have not been able to resolve it. So if the 4700 happens to be your device, you'll want to consider alternatives.

I have Resco Photo Viewer and it's great. I'd still prefer Imageer slightly over the Resco solution, but with the memory leak issue, Resco is my image viewer of choice. You do have the ability to crop and resize with Resco though no batch capabilities that I'm aware of.

Spb Imageer has memory leaks with all Pocket PC's, but only in slideshow mode. That is, if you don't start the slideshow mode, Imageer will behave OK.

I have no complaints for Resco Photo Viewer. Coupled with the other apps in the Media Pack, it's a bargain.
