<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.everydayinnovations.com/pico_news.htm' target='_blank'>http://www.everydayinnovations.com/pico_news.htm</a><br /><br /></div><i>"Everyday Innovations today introduced PicoPad Wallet Notes, a low-tech solution to a very old and annoying problem: not having something to write with when you need it. The answer: pen and paper that fit in your wallet. The world’s first walletable note device. PicoPad Wallet Notes may not replace your $400 PDA, but this stylish little gem may prove to be more useful, and at a retail price of $3.99, why not have both?"</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20050515-PicoPad.gif" /><br /><br />I just couldn't let this slide without running it by all of you. From a marketing point of view, the folk at Everyday Innovations sure know how to grab attention. I know I'm playing with semantics here, but as the supposed "poor-man's PDA", this wallet-sized pen and paper package may prove to be more useful than your <b>"existing PDA"</b> at a low price of $3.99. Firstly, if you already own a PDA, would you really have the need for such a tool? PDAs already let you jot a quick note on-the-go, and you need not worry about the troublesome task of fumbling with pen and paper after removing your wallet from your pocket. Secondly, working on the claim that this is the "world's first walletable note device", I'm beginning to wonder why you cannot achieve the same effect with a pack of Post-it notes and a small pen. Anyway, there's a market for everything, so stay tuned for the release of <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20050515-WMPad.gif">Windows Media Pad</a>! It may not replace your PDA, but this stylish little gem may prove to be more useful, and at a retail price of $0.00, why not have both?

You had "wey" too much fun making those two images. (especially the second one) ;)

Yeah, I rarely use my Pocket PC to jot down random notes. It's used for PIM stuff, wireless web, email, etc. much more.

no matter how good PDAs become, they cant totally replace a pen and a paper.
you cant tear a piece of pda, write a note on it and give to someone

At least they go together like two peas in Apod. 8)

Kind of goes the opposite technological direction from the 12 year nuclear battery-powered PDA.

And yet, it's functional for so much longer than 12 years!

Irony...

No............. but what you can to do is beam it to them...

I've got a better idea... 20 stickies!

I have one of them smaller Moleskine journals (but haven't actually written anything in it the entire time I've had it... go figure  ) and I stuck 10 Post-Its to the inside front cover and ten to the inside back cover. And I've been using a bullet Space Pen with a stylus cap for several years so I've got the little pen thing down as well. Although I think that my pen is likely easier to hold than their's is.

Oh my diety, tomorrow I'm going to sell my iPAQ and Axim, and go out and buy a note pad, after all, it never hard resets...

Rather lowtech but suprisingly useful. Just like a change purse. Every time I go shopping for a new wallet, I ask the clerk if they have any men's wallets with change compartments. I had a Fossil wallet once that had this feature and I loved it (until the zipper broke!), and have yet to find another. What do I hear in reply: "You know, so many men ask for that feature, but we never have any". Sad that manufacturers won't release functional when so many people ask for it. I guess its just not manly enough (http://www.livejournal.com/users/dadarkmcse/49731.html).

Actually, the first image was pulled straight from their website. The second image, on the other hand, is a fine display of my artistic skills (as if).

Having recently been given a promotion which requires my signature several times per day, l recently started enjoying the sheer beauty and function of a well made pen, especially a nice fountain pen (by the way, Mont Blanc is not anywhere near the best writing pen, in my opinion...Rotring blows them away). I find myself really enjoying pen and paper again, especially at my desk. It is an earthy kind of feeling. Give it a try, but use a nice pen.

The problem with this low-tech solution is that just like low-end iPAQs, they have a pre-programmed end-of-life after X number of notes. Also to bear in mind, they are completely unable to be upgraded should a newer version of "Paper OS" be made available, and you have to buy a new one.

Personally I won't be investing in one until they release the backlit version.

I've wanted for a long time to use my pdas as a notepad. Instead, I usually look for a scrap of paper and transcribe to the pda later.

It's hard to write, hard to erase, and hard to transcribe into text for the appropriate application.

I don't think it will be convenient for quick notes until pdas get those active pens like TabletPCs, and some decent note taking software.

Have you seen this one? The Hipster PDA (Parietal Disgorgement Aid) !

http://merlin.blogs.com/43folders/2004/09/introducing_the.html

For those of you into David Allen's Getting Things Done methodology, you will immediately see the utility of this as a UCT (ubiquitous capture tool).

For me, my iPAQ hx4700 with PhatPad works better.

I've seen it (I even tried to make one! ), and I concur about PhatPad.
