Hey everyone, sorry if this is totally newbie question but I've been out of the "palm world" for about 3 years now. I just got my x50v in the mail last week and have just started looking for fun/free software. I noticed in a lot of screen shots people have their battery meters, mem meters and such on their TODAY screen.

Where do I download something like that or other TODAY screen tools/management stuff for the OS?

Thanks!

Hello h0mersimps0n - welcome to Pocket PC Thoughts.

The one for showing memory meters and what not is called Spb Pocket Plus. (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/pocketplus/?en) However, there are a whole load of other applications out there that do it.

A good one for showing appointments, tasks and events is SBSH PocketBreeze. (http://www.sbsh.net/) An alternative is Spb Diary. (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/diary/?en) Calendar+ (http://www.mohairsofa.com/) is a basic, but free alternative.

If you're after weather plugins, some good ones are Spb Weather, (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/weather/?en) SBSH PocketWeather (http://www.sbsh.net/) and WeatherPanel. (http://www.marsware.net/)

Again, there are many more out there and this basic list is far from everything that is available. I'm sure many other people will chime in with a few suggestions, but for now, that should help get you started. Enjoy your X50v!

You can go to PocketGear or Handango (add the .com to the end of these addresses) and search for "battery meter" for example and you will find several choices, many which are free. You can do the same for calendar, contacts, etc.

Here are a few hints (although I should update the page since I use a VGA device now. All the programs work with VGA):

Try here for a good list of software, known to work (or not work) with your new companion:

Might be a good idea to register there as well, lots of good info.

Thanks for such a quick response guys I really appreciate it!

I installed agile (sp?) PIM program and it works GREAT on my x50v, so I'm psyched about that.

I will check out your links you all kindly posted tonight (board studying all day-no time), and let you know how I made out.

I figured out a bunch of things and settings but I still find it quite annoying how difficult it is to close and switch between programs (I use that switch program thingie but still). I "assumed" that being "windows" pocket PC would have an interface that would be more windows-like and easier to navigate, run multiple instances of programs, etc etc. I guess thats more along the lines of WINCE stuff.

If anyone knows any programs that clean up the interface or whatever makes switching between programs quicker/easier that would be great. Otherwise I'll spend my time just getting used to this new gadget.

Soooooo much different than that IBM Palm V I used to use back in 2001 ;)

Thanks again

My preference is Wisbar Advance 2 (http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/), a very powerful task manager with a great number of options but this has had some conflicts with the X50v particularly the WLAN utility. There are however lots of other similar software solutions.

I also prefer Wisbar Advance 2, but given the issues I've seen it has with the X50v, you might want to check out HandySwitcher and HandyMenu from Dinarsoft (on Handango or Pocketgear). I've always been happy with the Dinarsoft products. Pretty inexpensive, and they just work.
