Just wondering, for a non-accountant type (as in someone who just knows what they earn and want to keep track of what they spend), what would you recommend using on a Pocket PC. Is that what things like Microsoft Xcel (sp?) are for? I've never used it but I know there is a pocket version with Windows Mobile so, when I get a PPC, I may try to learn it. Is that what people use?

My current system of notepaper and receipts doesn't really work!

I always recommend Cash Organizer... in my opinion it is the best financial management tool out there for the PPC... It may be more than what you want... but have a look anyway...

There are a handful of others... such as Pocket Quicken... Pocket Money... and MasterSoft Money... but I find that Cash Organizer is well ahead of the pack.

Using Excel to keep track of your spending is a place to start, but you may find that a finance program is a better. You can start with this:

Spb Finance is worth a look too.

Spb Finance is what I use. I didn't want anything fancy... just something to replace my paper checkbook registers.

Thanks for the help guys. I am now a Pocket PC owner. Against some of the advice here I went for the Dell x50v. Even though I had no doubt, having looked at everything, that the Loox was the better buy, when I weighed up what I needed and the prices I could get the Dell came out as the better option for me. WIth the money I would have spent just on the Loox unit, I got 1G card and bluetooth keyboard etc. So I hope it serves me well!

So, this morning I was going through the finance options. Excel would probably do me but following Jason's link to Money 2005 I found that it was designed exactly for what I wanted and without any frills to complicate things. The SPB Finace does seem to have a very intuitive layout however so, if I find Money doesn't do me after a while, I'll probably get that.

It's a little frightening seeing the reality of what rubbish my money goes on!

Anyway, thanks for all of the advice. I really appreciate it.

I think by far the wildest thing ever is to tabulate Pocket PC expenses on your Pocket PC. I do it all the time.
