I've shown it to a few folks internally, and had requests to grab the app, so I thought I'd throw it out there (no source currently, maybe to follow). It's basically a technology demo that enables you to rotate a protein cartoon in real time, but I'd like to develop it further (hence the ambitious name for the app). This is the first OpenGL program I've written, so be lenient. Remember that this app is only for the Dell Axim x50v."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/pocketpdb.jpg" /><br /><br />It's a very simple demo, but it works very well (remember to install to internal RAM) and shows what the 2700G is capable of. I'd love to see more games take advantage of this - or, heck, just VGA in general. I've been loading up some apps on my X50v and the graphic quality of some apps leaves a lot to be desired. I'm particularly distressed with how Pocket Internet Explorer 200% scales all graphics, making our mobile site look rather chunky...but I digress. If you have an X50v, check out PocketPDB.

I'm impressed, Jason, with the program and with the x50v's ability to instantaneously rotate the images. This does indeed show off what the 2700G can do.

I had to hard reset today, so yours was the first program loaded onto the x50v. I'll soon be hard resetting again to install the A02 ROM update, so at least I got to try your program out before I start loading the x50v back up with apps again. (I just wish it had 128 MB RAM, and I am seriously considering the upgrade, but I really hate to void the warranty.)

Thanks for allowing us to give this a spin (no pun intended).

Regards,
Bruce

Very impressive ;)

The manipulation is brilliantly implemented, and smooth as a tortoise shell...

But nevertheless, it's about time we saw someone making something decent with the X50v's capabilities.

But - to be honest, I don't see it happening. The PPC gaming industry is infantile, and few titles are terribly profitable. Add in the factor of making a game for one platform.... And you've got a recipe for disaster. Either that or dilute your time with some minor "enhancements" (Stun car extreme?) Or just churn out the same old (Solterra?)

Nitpicking, but Jason didn't code this.

There's a few other neat 3D demos that use the x50v. Do a search on PocketGamer if you're interested.

Not a nitpick. I just a read it too fast.

Fascinating program, nonetheless. I have a friend who is close to getting an x50v (even though he just bought an HP 27xx) after he admired mine - this will push him over the edge. I'm not a much of a gamer, personally, as the only one I ever really play is Gamebox Asia, and it doesn't need the 2700G - it just looks great on VGA. But, this one impresses me not only because of the really fantastic graphics, but also because it causes me to think about how much we've learned about the human body and how much more we have to go. Not trying to wax philosophical, but that's part of what impresses me about it.
