I've never tried because I use TomTom GPs, but I think you can use Autoroute. I think maybe you plan the route on the desktop and transfer it to your pocket PC. I keep several city maps on my pocket pc using pocket streets which comes with Autoroute. Have a look here: http://www.microsoft.com/uk/homepc/autoroute/default.mspx

I use tomtom routeplanner, which is a true route planner (without the need for GPS) and it covers the UK and Ireland.

Sadly they seem to have stopped developing it at version 3 in 2002 and obviously some major roads may be missing.

It is a very useful tool on my pocket pc and I am sorry that Microsoft Autoroute only provides downloadable maps and not trip planning on a mobile device.

If you can get hold of a copy of tomtom routeplanner then it will probably still be useful to you. Maybe somewhere like ebay or something.

Good luck
