Where can I find free software to create animated GIFs?

I want to post screenshots of my Today screen on my website. But I want a GIF to cycle through them.

Where can I find free software to do this?

A few years ago I used a program called "Microsoft GIF Animator", but I don't know if it's available for download still. Sooo... :google:

After multiple google searches, hitting dead links on multiple websites, I finally came across the program here (http://www.jhepple.com/gif_animator.htm).

Hopefully its safe. :worried:

Anybody use Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/). Does it do animation? Or just image editting.
