Has anyone else noticed that operating time goes way down when using ATP's new 2 GB SD card?

When recording high resolution audio to our X50v, when we use the SanDisk 1 GB SD card we normally get over three hours of recording time.

When we tried recording with the ATP's new 2 GB SD card, we only got 42 minutes!

If and when SanDisk releases its new 2 GB SD card (we've been waiting since last November!), perhaps it will be more power efficient.

Thanks for the post! I've also measured (see http://menneisyys.freeweb.hu/CARDS/ on this) the power consumption of some CF/SD cards in a iPAQ 2210 back in 2003 and found out that they, in general, consume very little power (the most power-hungry CF card, an old Pretec 48M card, only resulted in some 15% of operation time decrease when used in constant recording mode). The ATP card must have either defects or just sloppy R&D.

Did you test only one card?

I'll try to run some more rigorous tests between the ATP 2 GB SD card and the SanDisk standard 1 GB SD card.

Perhaps the problem is that our original X50v 1100 mA battery has lost capacity.

We now have a new 2200 mAh Mugen battery for the X50v. With the ATP 2 GB SD card, when we recorded for roughly an hour-and-a-half, the Settings --> Power indicator showed that less than 25% of the capacity was used. That implies that we should be able to use it to record for roughly 3 hours with the standard 1100 mAh battery, the same as the SanDisk 1 GB.

Further testing should clarify the matter.
