Hello.

I spent a lot of time away from PPCT building my own PC. I did it!

Everything worked relatively fine, until I tried to play a music file or CD.

Windows Media Player says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly"

As I go to Control Panel/Sound devices, I find "No audio device" and as a result there are no further options to choose from.

I am confused, since I don't even know what "audio device" is supposed to mean in computer's language (evidently, it is not the speakers)... My Motherboard is an ASUS P5GD1-VM, 915G chipset, supposed to be good for 7.1 channels audio.

If it is a fact that I don't have an audio device, what do I need to do to install one?

Thanks for your attention and help.

On the driver CD that came with your motherboard there should be a seperate installation program for the audio drivers. You have to install these too. If you put your driver disk in, and let it auto-run, an install program should run. Look for an option to install audio drivers here.
