Gang,

I finally got around to doing something that I've been procrastinating about for quite some time. Just in case my wallet was lost or stolen, I decided to load my DL and credit card numbers onto my PPC (Pocket Excel). I also loaded the telephone numbers I would need to call to notify the CC companies. Well, just as I was feeling pretty good about myself I had a thought, what would happen if I lost my PPC? Not only would the finder have a great PPC, but they would also have access to ALL of my credit card numbers  . And since there is no way to password-protect a pocket excel file, I'm thinking that this may not be the best solution.

So my question is does anyone have a recommendation for a software that will allow me to load my data AND keep it secure? I thought I had something called ewallet on an earlier PPC but I'm open to anything. Since I'm not going to get much use from this software (hopefully) I'd like to keep the price in the $9.95 USD range, but will go higher if I need to.

As always, thanx in advance for any help.

EDIT - WOW, so much for $9.95!! Just did a quick search and came up with two, ewallet - $19.99 and flexwallet - $24.95! Geez, had no idea this type of software was so expensive. Might just load the data onto my laptop at these prices! Any others??

I use flexwallet, and I find it invaluable (although I admit I did get it at a discounted price a year ago). Ive found it most useful for store all my serial numbers and registration info, especially useful after hard resetting your pocketpc.

$24.99 is expensive, but if you end up using it more than you think it might very well be worth is.

Menneisyys / Surur,

Thanx for the info. Great post Menneisyys, lots of useful information. One of the links you provided lead me to a promotion page where PPCT readers can purchase flexwallet for $9.99. I've contacted the company to see if this price is still available. If so, I'll likely go with it.

But to be honest, both of these appear to be overkill for what I need and I'm a little concerned with the size of the footprint. If they don't give me the discounted price, I'll likely go with one of the freeware or less than $10 programs.

Again guys, thanx for the help.

I have password protection available for my Excel files. I use a WM2003 unit but the feature was in PPC2002 too. Open a sheet and look in the 'Edit' menu.

It's not a strong security system so you'll be more secure with an eWallet or, you can encrypt your spreadsheet with Resco File Explorer and not have to re-enter all that data again.

Much as the WinCE operating system doesn't itself support strong enctryption (the Excel/Word passwords are a joke and can be cracked on a desktop computer in 10-20 minutes), there're several third-party solutions. Maybe the best 'in the background' solution is Sentry 2020 for Pocket PC ( http://www.softwinter.com/sentry_ce.html ), if you don't use a PPC that has something similar already built-in (for example, the iPAQ hx2755) in the ROM.

I picked up flexwallet 2005 as the developer was very helpful and was willing to honor a special price for PPCT readers that was available through one of the links Menneisyys provided, but this is good information. Had I been able to figure this out, I likely wouldn't have looked any further. But because the price was so reasonable, I'm glad I tried flexwallet. It really is much more convenient for loading information. The price also includes a desktop version. I see one of the front-page stories involves a similar product for $55. WOW! My flexwallet decision is looking better and better.

I thought about starting a new thread but since my question is kind-of related, I just piggy-back off of this one.

Ever since I installed this software it seems as though I'm getting fairly significant battery drain. I don't know if this is a coincidence as it's possible that my battery simply needs replaced (or some other cause). Has anyone ever heard of a software causing battery drain.

Fortunately the battery on my Ipaq is so great that it's not a big issue but I don't want ANY software that causes performance issues.

Thanx,

Hi all,

Do any of these password managers (that also have a desktop companion) have the ability to automatically fill in login information?

Ideally I'd like something that lets me fire up the desktop companion, find the site I want to go to click on it and takes me there and automatically logs me in, or fills in my info.

I found Roboforms but that's too browser centric, really ties into your browser, I'd like a seperate app..

Is there anything like that out there?

Thanks in advance!
