can anyone recommend a simple battery meter that would sit beside the system clock on a pocket pc phone edition...? I am looking for something that is compatible with pocketpc pe (i-mate JAM) so that it doesn't interfere with the existing built in ppc pe notification icons. I would love a simple looking one similar to what is used in ms smartphone.

TIA!

I recommend vBar. I use it on my XDA II Mini (same and the JAM) and it is great. It takes up sooo little space, offers a menu for switching between and closing apps, and has a battery/memory bar that sits next to the clock as well!

See what you think. Its free.

Thanks for the quick reply! I just tried vBar but I don't need the extra task menu functionality, or even the additional memory meter, plus I'm not crazy about the battery icon that is used in vBar

I'm looking for a very simple battery meter, and I don't need the app to do anything else. I would love a simple batt icon, just like the one in ms smartphone... have a look at this image so you know what I mean:

http://www.tonaya.com/products/qbar/index.php - This one is $6.99 and does what you want. Don't know of any other freeware ones.

I love vBar because it lets you easily switch and close programs, saving memory. but, its personal preference. All I can suggest is a today screen one, called uptime (http://ae.inc.ru/uptime_t.html). It is great and tells you how long you get out of a charge.

Thanks Mitchell0, looks pretty good, but it still doesn't look as good (clean) as the one that is used in ms smartphone... :| I wonder why ms didn't just use the same icon in ppc pe! :bad-words:

Transcreative makes a simple free one called Magic Button, it also does app shutdown and switching as well.

Thanks fyiguy I had already tried magic button but it interferes with the pocketpc pe notifications.. and the batter icon is ugly IMO...
I just want a nice clean battery icon, like the one that is used in ms smartphone (see screenshot in my post above).

Last time I tried vBar, it couldn't follow changes it themes, so it looked really ugly if you f.ex. have a red colored start-bar. Has this changed?

I'm using MagicButton today, think it's good, but maybe I'll give vBar a try again...

@shareef have you tried GSBATMONP (greensoftware battery monitor proj)? this is a freeware app that looks a lot like the smarthphone battery meter here is the link. http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA032810/files/gsbmonp102.zip

It puts a segmented line all the way accross the top of the scrren, a couple pixels high...very easy to read....a lot of extra goodies with it, but you can turn those off...it does cost though....
