Dear all...

would like to switch back to PPC. I'm a current PalmOS user (own a WiFi enabled Clie TJ37). I used to be a PPC user some years ago but fell in love with the simplicity, affordability, assortment of software and robustness of the PalmOS.

My current PDA is Clie TJ37. This model is WiFi enabled but its battery life sucks (3 hours approx.). I'm thinking of buying an Axim x3i since I've read that battery life is much better and it can be bought at eBay for some $220.

Now...during the last 3 years I've grown accostumed to certain PalmOS apps (couldn't live without them). Reading through the post I've been able to pinpoint PPC replacement candidates for them...nevertheless there are some others for which I've not been able to find an equivalent PPC replacement....these are

Bonsai (outliner)
http://www.natara.com/Bonsai/index.cfm

SmartList to Go (database administrator)
http://www.dataviz.com/products/smartlisttogo/index.html

HandRSS (RSS reader)
http://standalone.com/palmos/hand_rss/

DayNotez (note taker journal)
http://www.natara.com/DayNotez/index.cfm

Slap (random thoughts collector for later classification as ToDos, Appointments, Notes, Contacts, etc.)
http://www.handshigh.com/

Any recommendations for PPC versions of these apps??

Ok - not sure about replacements that will fit your exact requirements but suggest you look at

Agenda Fusion - http://www.developerone.com/agendafusion/

This is a PIM replacement but it has superior task management functions, grouping, categories and now project views. There is an alternative called Pocket Informant (both very similar) but I prefer Agenda Fusion

If you are looking for list management only look at

ListPro http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/lp/lp_ssk.htm

For an RSS replacement try PocketRSS

http://www.happyjackroad.net/index.asp

Not sure about the note taking apps there are so many available try Phatnotes frpm Phatware - You should also take a look at there caligrapher program

http://www.phatware.com/phatnotes/index.html

If none of these fit your requirements do a search on Handango - I am sure there will be something there.

The top ten apps I would recommend to anyone new to the pocket pc are

Agenda Fusion (wouldnt use a ppc without it)
Worldmate (excellent weather today plugin - plus travel information)
PocketPlus (improved task manager, today shortcuts and IE functions)
Morphgear (GB, GBA, SNES GG emulator)
Adobe Reader 2 (Pocket Version)
Lextionary (excellent dictionary)
Calligrapher (includes pen commander which allows you to open programs and write text with key stroke macros)
SpB Time (excellent clock application - with timers)
Cash Organizer (Money program)
Landware Movie Guide (Movie reviews and listing program)

Hope this helps

Boy, I wish someone in the PPC community would come up with a program like "Slap"

Since I don't use a Palm, I can't envision how hard it is to format handwritten notes into a contact I could paste or insert into the my contacts folder, but it looks like a really neat little program! 8O

Welcome back to the PPC World. I think you are going to find a few changes.

As a previous poster noted, "Agenda Fusion" has recently introduced Project Management with their new version 7.x. This is really light duty PM right now but it should become more complete with time. Aside from the PM piece, Agenda Fusion is an excellent PIM replacement that you should consider. Another application you might want to consider are "List Pro", a list management app for creating task or check lists. Something a bit more comprehensive would be "Pocket Plan" that can sync with MS Project. I think this app would do what you are looking for.

For database management I would suggest trying Sprint DB Pro+Printing. I have tried several database apps to sync with my MS Access database and this one has been the easiest to manage. There is s desktop companion available

As a former DayNotez user, I would suggest that you try CLC Journal by Crown Logic. This is the only journal app that I am aware of that creates a conduit within Active Sync (the HotSync equivilant) and syncs directly with the Outlook Journal. I believe Pocket Informant, another execellent PIM replacement app, now includes an integrated journal app, but I have not tested it. I have used CLC Journal since selling my last Sony PDA and archiving my Day Notez file.

If you don't want to use the Outlook Journal and want something stand alone, you want to try Journal Pro, an exccellent journaling app with a desktop companion. You can create multiple files and multiple folders within each file. It's not very fancy, but get's the job done.

Hope this helps to get you on your way.

Hi...just following up...sold the Clie and currently using an ipaq RX3715. So far, things are running relatively smoothly (other than the ocassional "reset").

The only "unexpected" challenge has been migrating all my notes from Daynotez to PhatNotes. As good as Daynotez is...it has one major drawback that only the "migrating" user like me could tell...it has no option for exporting notes!!! So far I've been copying one note at a time to Phatnotes...at current pace, looks likely that'll finish in a couple more weeks...oh well.

Overall I'm very happy with my new PocketPC.
