Has anyone tried this application, Super Alert PE before?

http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=16827

It seems to fix known alarm issues/problems that are inherent in most Windows Mobile devices...

Any feedbacks please...

Thanks...

I haven't tried THIS version of it... but if it's anything like v.1.21 then it should be quite good.

I started using it because i would often miss my calendar alarms... the settings make it very flexible (e.g. my regular calendar alarms are enhanced by SuperAlert but my SPB Time alerts aren't).

barely uses any system resources.

I've been beta-testing it and the version I have fixed all of my alarm problems caused either by the OS or Pocket Informant's Alarm Notes not behaving properly at alarm time.

Wow. Thanks for the heads-up ipaq_wannabe!! I used to rely heavily on the previous version of this program with my prior devices, but this software hadn't been updated it in a long while last i checked, so with my iPaq 4700, I was forced to start searching for other alarm programs this weekend.

I wasn't too crazy about the one's I had trialed (I've gone through three of them so far this weekend), but if this new version of Super Alert is anything like the old version, my search has just come to a screeching halt!

yes, it seems to be a great program - i installed the trial yesterday... and created test events on my PPC for each category, ie., clock alarms, tasks, calendar, PI events, etc.

then waited and see...

i purchased it just last night!!!

however, it would be great that they allow "MP3 alarms" as an added-functionality

How do you mean? Using Super Alert, you can launch ANY file when your alarms go off, including MP3/WMA/OGG/WMV/AVI/etc... anything. The only requirement is that the file must be associated to a program (in other words, if you click on that file from file explorer, does your device automatically know which program to launch for that file?).

I just played around with the PE version, and found that the wizard (which wasn't a part of the previous version) to be a little bit cumbersome for my tastes. I prefer to just launch the program and then configure all the options directly within the program itself.

Anyway, if you don't know how to specify MP3 files as an alarm, you go to the file dialog (from the program settings) and you configure the file filter to show all files, then from there you can choose whatever file you like. The only gotcha is that the file must be in the My Documents folder. However, there is a way around this. Instead of moving a music file to your My Documents folder, you can just create a shortcut link in the My Documents folder and then point Super Alert to the shortcut.

is that how easy it is?

thanks!!!

PS: i guess im one of those folks who never read the manuals...

Well actually, this is not a very intuitive program... it took me a while when I first bought it (nearly 3 years ago) to fully figure out how get the most out of it. Feel free to drop me some questions if you're stuck at all.

Here's one quick tip though. While many alarm programs are meant to replace the standard OS alarm functionality, this program really just wraps extra functionality around the standard OS alarm functionality. So in other words, you still have to configure the time and date in which alarms go off through the standard clock applet (to me, that's a good thing b/c it's so easy to use). The only difference in how you'd configure it is that you would uncheck the box that specifies you want a sound file played. Then you go into the SuperAlert settings and just uncheck the box that says something like "play system sounds" and then check the box that says something like "in addition, play this sound/file" and then click on the browse button to specify the music file you want played. It's that easy!

Also remember that there is a "test" button that you should push after you specify the desired file. This will ensure that Super Alert will activate your music file correctly.

Let me know if you have questions.

Ekkie,

I was wondering if you could help me (here I am assuming that there are problems with my own settings instead of a program bug).

Okay, so I have installed Super Alert, and i would rely on it to remind me of tasks/events. However, a problem arises when I am not able to either "snooze," "dismiss," or whatever; and it is left ON for a period of time - the program locks up the PPC requiring several soft resets.

To explain in detail - I setup a third-party app to notify me everyday to wake-up at a specific time. Okay, I ignore it in the morning, and come back to it a few hours later, the PPC locks up - neither taps nor hardware button presses would work.

I would then proceed to do a soft reset, and both the Super Alert AND system alarm notification immediately comes up (I cannot even use other stuff, etc). Even here, taps, etc arent working.

Another soft reset, and only taps would work; but even then, it is extremely slow that i have to wait minutes!

Okay, another soft reset - and some tries with taps to get rid of the notification (Super Alert's).

When, I finally get rid of the notification; I have to repeat the process all over again for the system's notification (as opposed to Super Alert's).

I really dont get it, and it is driving me nuts in the morning.

Thanks!!

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. Unfortunately, I can't say that I've seen this behavior myself...

What device are you using? What is the 3rd party app? Where have you installed SuperAlert?

It does sound like there's some interference between the 3rd party app you refer to and SuperAlert. It might be worth sending the SuperAlert developers an email, but give me that info and let's see if we can figure this out first.
