I have Siemens SX66, and I have GPRS data access. I would like to use the SX66 as a access point or router for my Sony TR2 laptop when I'm on the road. I would prefer to be able to do this using 802.11b, which is available on both macines, but will take any working method (the TR2 does not have bluetooth built in, but I'll get a dongle if necessary). I won't need mobile internet access often enough to justify getting a dedicated GPRS card for the laptop, but would still like to be able to access it once in a while.....

Any help is appreciated.

I don't know of any solutions using WiFi, but you should definitely be able to accomplish this over Bluetooth. Do a search in these forums for "gprs modem" and you'll find a few threads that should get you started. The steps usually aren't device specific, so don't overlook the ones that mention the h6315 or other handhelds.

You might also want to do this search at the pdaPhoneHome.com forums (http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/index.php). There is a ton of information there on PPC Phones, and it's where I found the updated Bluetooth stack that allowed me to accomplish the same thing on my h6315 that you're looking to do.

Good Luck! :)

This might help--I found two great places that can help you get your PDA connected to the Internet. If you want to do it manually it might take some time. If you are up for it Geekzone has a good tutorial that helps you configure and share the internet by using your Bluetooth enabled desktop or notebook with internet access as an internet gateway for your iPAQ Pocket PC with Windows Mobile 2003:

Otherwise you can get software that does it for you. This is what I have found to be the easiest way:

Neo, this is not quite what I meant. I'm already getting GPRS connection on my ppc, i would like to pass the packets along to the laptop.

I think you are going to have to go with CrashX's option, and get a BT dongle. To do what you really want, you would need something equivelant to Internet Connection Sharing on the SX66, and i don't think I've seen anuyhting like that.

If this is true that there is not a way to do this, it is a(nother) reason to have separate devices (Pocket PC, Cell phone, laptop). I've not thought of this problem before, and I'm very surprised there isn't a way to do it? Not even using the SX66 as a bluetooth modem? Wow.

No, you can do this using the SX66 as a BT modem I'm sure. The original hope was to use Wifi to the SX66, because the laptop didn't have BT, and take advantage of a GPRS connection. Using the SX66 or a PPCPE or Smartphone, as a BT modem to the internet is a significantly more common and supported scenario than having an internet connection on the SX66 and then sharing that connection with an adhoc WiFi partner.

That's the solution that was offered, I'm not sure where you got the idea that it doesn't work.

Thanks for the correction. When I read what I *thought* I read, I thought I was losing it. Turns out I was, but in a different way ;-) sorry for the confusion I added.

In this case check this guide (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=1477) instead. And while there, check all other Bluetooth Guides (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=449).
