[i]"Welcome to the award winning Fizz Traveller 2.1:

Now I hate to be picky, but it's what I do best, how can something "be award winning" when it's only just been released :?:

This award winning post was brought to you by me. I'd like to thank Darius, Jason and the academy. :devilboy:

I'd guess it's referring to the previous Smartphone release (which probably also explains the 2.1 initial version number) ;)

I'm wondering how this compares to, say MobiMate's WorldMate (http://www.mobimate.com/ppc/worldmate/index.shtml) products, any opinions? Am currently looking to choose such an app...

afaict, WorldMate has a packing list function and costs $10 more on sale. It's usually $15 more. And Fizz Traveller looks better imo.

Haha... A bit quick to jump to conclusions, aren't we?

It was a winner in the Microsoft Mobile2Market 2004 Application Contest.

Look pretty solid. But I was looking at the PDF manual and, unless I missed it, I saw one major flaw - it doesn't use ActiveSync to update its data like WorldMate does. You must do it via WiFi, GPRS, USB connection etc manually.

I've gotta' believe that's something that they should be able to add in later if enough people ask! That would be somewhat of a letdown because this looks absolutely terrific. If I were still traveling every week, I'd be giving this a serious look-over!

Activesync pass-through is automatically used if available. This is always chosen in preference over any dialup connection setting. If pass-through is not available the configured dialup on the device is then used.
Hope this helps.

I'll second that. It's always great to have a developer show up and interact with the community.

Thanks for stopping by! :D

Thanks for the response! I already assumed that passthrough would work. But that still means you have to manually start the connection through Fizz Traveller. The advantage of an ActiveSync conduit is that it updates automatically every time you cradle the device and sync. I bought it anyways because it looks like it has some good features, especially the weather stuff.

But you guys really have to come up with an Activesync conduit if you want to compete with WorldMate. IMO, its a major feature that can't be left out. Especially a product like this that depends on accurate, daily information to be useful. While you can manually update, many of us (at least I will) will usually forget to do so or will find it just plain inconvenient to have to start the app up while cradled to update. And if the app has its own "wake up, connect to data and update automatically" feature (I haven't looked yet), many of us (again, me) don't like to use any feature of any program that initiates a data connect. That's asking for trouble IMO :) That's why an ActiveSync conduit is important.

Anyway, just my opinion...

The current version does have the "auto-update" option, but we we will be improving this in thenext version by making it much more configurable. We also understand your concerns with this feature and Syncing using conduits has been requested by our smartphone users, so expect to see this in a future free release.

Thanks for the suggestions - we welcome all feedback so please continue to let us know what you think!

The auto-update feature works well, but I would also like to suggest the active sync add-in. Having both of those options would be nice.

I purchased this yesterday and really like it. You have a better city selection than the last time I worked with WorldMate. I could never find Kaiserslautern in there.

Sorry, but the current version is not VGA compatible, but this is very high on our priority list and will be coming in a future version.

This will be a free upgrade for all registered users of 2.1

Hi Nicky, Fizz Traveller looks interesting indeed and is certainly priced right. I think I'm going to buy it after all.

Can you explain what's meant by finding out airport delays on chosen favorite cities based on weather conditions?

Airport delays are based on the weather conditions at your local airport. Based on the city that you select, Fizz Traveller will find the closest airports to that city and let you choose which one you are interested in. It will then show you details for the next 48hrs to show how the weather conditions could effect the flights to that airport.

Weather and airport delay information is gathered from Custom Weather who provide data to us for over 58,000 cities world wide!

Hope you like the product and keep the comments coming.

I've noticed two slight bugs in version 2.1 -

1) Victoria, BC's time is listed as being two hours ahead of what it actually is.

2) The Today item keeps enabling itself whenever I open the program.

And, a request, if I may: make it possible to sort cities by timezone as well as alphabetically

Otherwise, I love this software. :)

Glad you like the software !

As for your problems:-

1. This is a bug in the city list, but you can edit it manually, select the city and choose Edit City from the Options menu, from here you can change the time zone to be the correct one for you. We will make sure this is correct in the next version
2. We are not sure what you mean here, could you provide a little more information ? Either reply here or send a message to [email protected] and we will try to help further.

We will also consider your other request for a future version.

Thanks for the comments.

If I have the Today plugin unselected on the Today Items menu (ie, the FizzTraveller plugin is not showing on the Today screen) and I start Fizz Traveller, the plugin will be showing on the Today screen the next time I go to it.

Thanks for this, we have now reproduced the problem and it will be fixed in the next version. Thanks for letting us know.
