Hitachi is making all this possible, now, at a significant price reduction, retailing the 6 GB Microdrive for $299 USD or pennies per megabyte. Hitachi's new suggested retail pricing represents the best value of capacity, reliability and performance at a price point that's affordable to virtually all owners of consumer devices. The Microdrive 3K6 is available in removable Compact Flash Type II and embedded versions."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20050224-Hitachi6GB.jpg" /><br /><br />Seagate is <a href="http://www.seagate.com/cda/newsinfo/newsroom/releases/article/0,1121,2630,00.html">also shipping a 6GB drive</a>, but only to select OEMs. Seeing as how you can now get a 4GB CompactFlash <a href="http://pocketpcthoughts.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=2837912/search=4GB%20CompactFlash">for about $275</a>, this no longer excites me quite so much. That said, if you need the absolute top capacity CF solution for your Pocket PC at a decent price (6GB CF is still around $650), it looks like this will be available at retail shortly.

I would want a pretty decent warranty for something like this.

For only $250 buy the latest 6GB ipod mini and yank out the microdrive.
Or do the same for $200 on the 4GB ipod mini.

My thoughts exactly.

The microdrives in the iPod minis are neither removable nor CompactFlash based.

It does illustrate how pricey this thing is though.

So true. That's why the I'll be picking up and iPhoto in the next month or two when I get some "real" free time on my hands. 6 GB for $250 in MD and $650 in CF formats is not worth it for just movies, music, etc for me.

I would get this for the sole and solitary purpose of telling people I had 6GB in my Pocket PC. I would never even use a GB of it. :)

You'd be surprised.... I've had a 2GB CF card for a while now, and it only took me about a fortnight before I was annoyed at not being able to squeeze one more movie on there without having to sacrifice an episode of Fawlty Towers or chuck out some music videos first!
