Cool! I hope the sound quality is much better in hi-quality modes than in the previous version (see http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=36508 on this). Will test it ASAP.

Tested. Much as the GUI has changed, it contains the same (version 1.0) MP3/OGG/RAF/SPX coders as the previous version. This means it is unable to make quality recordings, unlike VITO/NoteM, not even in 44 kHz/16 bit/320 kbps MP3 mode.

OK Menneisyys, we know you don't like this app, but for some of us it works great. I'm just an end-user and I have no other audio recording needs. It does -more- than I need for 12 bucks when I bought it ! EDIT: As for NoteM, it is unsupported freeware and doesn't work properly on my unit. I used it for years on a PPC 2002 iPAQ. It had its own set of bugs though.

I don't debate it's perfectly OK with non-44 kHz recordings. It's just hi-quality recordings that it really sucks at.

BTW, will make a mini-review (with a lot of mp3's) ready in an hour :)

Fair enough, but it will be helpful if you note whether one can do better for the same price. Current U.S. $15.96. I'm curious why one would want extremely high quality recordings through a PPC with no mic input other than the built in mic? (e.g. iPAQ 2215) I keep my quality quite low but perfectly audible to minimize storage space and save KB even over the native recorder in the OS. My bias is, all I do is voice recordings.

NoteM - it's free and

1. makes MUCH better recordings at 44 kHz/56 kbps.

2. consumes considerably less battery

As per my earlier post, NoteM failed to work properly on my WM2003 PPC. It muted the speaker systemwide after listening to any recording. Developer has stopped answering emails. "Free is moot when the app is no goot." :)

Great review. Thanks! I wouldn't have imagined the power usage was so varied.
BTW, I still really like Resco. ;)
