I've been meaning to set this up for some time, and now I think I'm going to try it. I'll report back on my experiences (as soon as I find a few minutes to do it, that is). 8)

Great article Janek!

For those of us who don't have a Pocket PC Phone Edition or Smartphone....Are Wi-Fi equipped PDAs considered AUTD ActiveSync compatible devices?

I have a HP 4150 and my company is about to migrate to a new exchange server and Outlook Web Access. It would be awesome to be able to sync via the Internet from any hotspot!

Thanks!

They're not AUTD, no, but you can set them up for manual or scheduled Server Activesyncs.

Will this also work with an older XDA running PPC2002?

It should work fine. The Always Up To Date (AUTD) feature is a little dependant on whether your provider allows you to receive SMS messages for a reasonable cost...

I have a couple of questions if anyone can help:

- Are any of the outsourced Exchange hosting providers willing to set this up for you (as an individual customer)? Like MailStreet, eOutlook, ASP-One, 1and1, etc.

- Is there a list somewhere of major US cell providers and whether they allow FREE inbound SMS messages (or offer unlimited inbound SMS for a reasonable flat rate)? I'm specifically interested in Cingular/ATTWS and T-Mobile (and I'm always forgetting this)...

How about the hosted Exchange account that i-mate gives its Pocket PC users for free for the first year (10MB space) -- I'd imagine it would especially make sense for them to support AUTD?

Argh the site looked very promising at first glance and I'd bookmarked it intending to check it out when I had time, then completely forgot about it until a new thread (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=336132#336132) today reminded me!

This provider looks great with unbelievable pricing and I assume Jason recommends it because it's reliable and feature-rich? Thanks much I appreciate the tip! Just wish I could've known about it months ago. I thought I'd heard about all the major providers but I'd never heard of this one and it came as a surprise...

Perhaps it would be a great idea if Jason or the PPCThoughts guys write it up or do comparison or something.

It's on my list of things to do, but yes, I recommend them highly. :-)

Just curious Jason are they perhaps brand new? I don't think I'd ever heard of them when the usual motley set of others (MailSreet, ASP-One, eOutlook, Intermedia, Inet7, Lanlogic, 1and1, etc, etc) had been periodically discussed here and at other pda, exchange, and email sites.

In fact it's not listed on this supposedly uber-list (http://www.crowcanyon.com/ExchangeASP.htm)...

For years I've been paying multiple mail-domain hosting providers for group accounts at each provider (to handle the personal mail of each of my family members and for various filtering, backups, and rendundancies). I'd whittled the list down but I think it's time to whittle some more, to just what they actually use  Currently they have 1and1 Exchange, Tuffmail, FastMail, FuseMail, MailSnare, and a few others like GoDaddy, etc.

Yes, they're fairly new - I've been using their service for about six months now, and I haven't had any problems. I'm going to make an announcement about it on the front page eventually, but if anyone DOES want to sign up, here's an affiliate link:
