Most of you had plenty to drool about. Now there are more reasons to drool over the device. Paul, from MoDaCo, has a few extra details to share on the device - codenamed "HTC Universal". The more I read about the fantastic specifications of the device, the more I want it. The software package is enough to make you feel all good inside. Read Paul's post to find out more!

It is a pity that I seriously doubt that I would be able to afford one of these - because, apart from that pretty major poblem :D, I could really see myself using one of these.

I am not really sold on the look of the device, but the feature set is pretty impressive. For me the keyboard is not really a "must have" feature but I can see lots of situations (sitting in a wifi enabled pub on a wet Dublin afternoon for example...) where the keyboard in "laptop" mode might make MSM chatting very comfortable!

I want one too... just looking at the thing makes me want to drop my 6315... (Yes, I know in an earlier post I said I liked it, but this MDA IV makes me want to drop any other PPC). If it comes to Australia first - I'll be dropping a plaintive Email to you ;)

I'm going to pretend this doesn't exist until I hear an announcement from Sprint...

Okay... I guess I'll settle for an unfounded rumor suggesting a CDMA/1xRTT/EVDO model....

any takers?

Yes, NLS, I've seen others and used them, including the MDA and MDA II.

The 6315 has a lot of features that I find truly useful, including t-mobile's sometimes horrible excuse for push email, and the 3 wireless radios. I also like its form factor (Fits nicely in my hand) and the battery life is wonderful.

Given that my 6315 currently holds the record for longest PPC I've owned, I think my comment on liking it was very serious indeed.

I'm officially taking all my pent-up MPx lust and putting it on the MDA IV. I'll pay any price, give any limb ('cept the thumbs) for this to be released for a decent US carrier totally uncrippled. After the MPx experience I'm still expecting some disastrous announcement, like terrible battery life or something.

It looks like HTC is taking all the missing elements of a perfect converged PPC Phone device and rolling them into one. Sweet.

Yes mpx what?? This thing seems to have almost everything I'm looking for. The only thing left for me would be a type II CF slot for my microdrive. I think I'd pay almost any price to only have to carry a single device. (Emphasis on almost).

I am forced to remember the initial excitement I felt over the MPx though, and my 'caution' indicator is going off. The only thing worse then being let down by the final features or price would be for it to be 'all that' but not available in the US.

The MPx fell way, way short... but the huge amount of interest that it generated I think really helped other manufacturers (hopefully HTC is not the only one) take note of the design & features that stirred our imagination. If this device delivers in spades, that would be the ultimate, but I have no doubt that if this does NOT deliver, it won't be long before we see one that does. At the very least, this device seems to hit the mark a lot closer than did the MPx.

Just think... it feels like yesterday when the dominant PPC was the iPaq36xx and everyone's next generation dream device would be one with sleeveless CF support, 16-bit color screen (with no dust), and support for simultaneous button pushes! Now we're talking about BT, WiFi, integrated QUERTY keyboard, CF/SDIO support, Tri-band GSM, GPRS, VGA screen,...

And that's why we have importers. For a more powerful, higher resolution, convertible 3G upgrade to the Blue Angel--with a codename like Universal, no less--I think I'll be talking to Expansys (http://expansys.com/) or maybe Dynamism (http://dynamism.com/), but I don't think Japan will be getting a phone they can't use. And because it's GSM, most cellular companies will support it just fine (as long as you don't depend on 850 MHz service, of course... stupid USA nonsense :?).

Once someone can tell me where the green and red call begin / end buttons are when the evice is closed I may be starting to look at it - if they are missing I would just call it a design mistake

Hope it'll have the same screen quality-wise as the iPAQ hx4700 / Pocket Loox 720.

MDA III is much different than I and II, I understand you haven't seen this right? It has the three wireless radios, push mail is just software (maybe they include it too or you can get it), the form factor is better than 6315.

If I was out for the market for a PocketPC phone (and I am not), I would definately have (a) MDA3 on top and (b) 6315 at the bottom.

But that's just me. Sorry I am just preoccupied with HP, I'll never own an HP again probably and other than my personal feelings against the company and quality of their products, I also find ALL their models for years (I even managed to buy one unfortunately) lack against competition (making a nice puzzle of models that offer everything someone would like but not in one unit) AND have a non understandable price premium.

MDA3 is already the best PPC phone. MDA4 just pushes much further (and then you have HP announcing a blackberry-alike hahahaha).

Yup, times changes and our expectations change with them. You gotta' love capitalism. If someone isn't offering the device you want, chances are that someone else will spot a gap in the market and step in and produce it. The dominant players can't afford to take thier eye off the ball and get punished when they do. Highly Pointed? Nah.

I'm looking forward to the MDA4 and many other like it. 8)

I think I may have found my "it" device. Just got to keep my H5455 iPAQ limping along until the Universal becomes available here in the States.

If this phone makes it to the US (with 850) and still has the camera intact (stupid cingular sx66) i will buy it. No question. I just got the sx66 and love it, except for the camera being missing.. But i would definetly pass it on to my fiance or brother to use if i could get one of these. It has everything i want except CF (which would make it to big, so i guess i'll survive) and CIR for remote control.

I must say, wow.. Nice device.

I wonder if this device is tri-band to discurage people in the US from buying it like they did the PDA2K so cingular can make for money when they release there version? Kinda makes sense. Think about how many sales cingular could have had if all those people in the US that bought the imported PDA2K had bought the sx66... Think about it. ;)

Actually, its not all that different from a hardware standpoint. It has WiFi (Which I had with a Sandisk WiFi Card when I had my MDA II) and a keyboard that I'll never use. To top it off, I think that the 6315's form factor is superior ;)

I kinda gathered that.
