Working with SQLCE database on Desktop

Has anyone ever worked with creating, reading, and writing to a SQLCE database on a desktop... without the use of an emulator?

It doesn't matter what language either... VB.net, C#, java, just wondering if anyone has done this before. If so, I'd appreciate some pointers.. :)
