I guess the rapidly increasing version numbers reflect the fact the product is rapidly maturing. Take a look at the linked site to see the Changelog -- picard has been hard at work and has integrated just about new modules in every aspect of the program. And let us know how it works. 8)

Does 0.5 include all the changes in 0.096? I'm a bit confused by Picard's version numbering...

I talked to Picard and a few CoreCodec Devels along with myself have taken on the Project Managing of BP so confusion like this ends. Look for this big change when we release then next milestone release. ... meaning 1.0 on.

Also on the horizon are some things that you all might wanna know, like;
- Support for Matroska Super Chapters (DVD Menus)
- Helpfile inclusion
- Skinning
- Audio mode
- Desktop mode
- Visualizations
- Options GUI clean-up

Download BP v0.5 here: http://betaplayer.corecodec.org

Sorry for the slight divergance, but how does this app differ from Pocket MVP?

Really, just curious.

Thanks.

It's lightyears more advanced. Besides vastly superior stability, speed, and features, BetaPlayer supports hardware MPEG1 and MPEG4 video decoding using the Intel 2700G video chip in the Dell Axim X50v. Think flawless, non-skip DVD quality video in full VGA glory.

Has anyone been able to download this from the provided link above?
The site has been down for me for the past few hours.

I am a relatively new user and I think this is a great program. I have a question though. I have some wmv files and needed to load an asf plugin with .096. Will I need to do the same with .5? If so, does a compatible plugin exist?

Why is this confusing? 0.5 is greater as 0.096 so it contains all the goodies :D I just didn't want to confuse 'stable' version users with a 0.1 version (compared to 0.04 version which can be read 0.4 easily)

asf plugin is included in main install. you should be able to play your file after the stable version is installed (btw 0.096 didn't have asf plugin either)

Wow -- quite an impressive application!

What are folks using to convert DVDs into avi files?

You can easily use something like PocketDivXEncoder for that. BetaPlayer supports the DivX codec.

All the DVD to PocketPC tools I've tried I've been very disappointed with - PocketDivXencoder which is FREE was the best one I'd seen until...

I've now purchased Slysoft AnyDVD along with Nero Recode2 and can very easily shrink any of my DVDs down to 200-300mb size with EXCELLENT mpeg4 quality.

Just need Picard to support the new mpeg4-AVC codec for even better file sizes and quality now ;)

Fedorov.

Impressive optimizations in this software! 8O
I only wish it could play WMV files as fast as DIVX ones...

@Len M. I use fairuse (http://www.fairusewizard.com/lang_en/) wizard light (freeware) for my rips but I keep the file output high 700MB. They look great using BetaPlayer and the X50v or X30/high from Dell.
