i need to get my wife a new PPC w/o cutting too deep into MY gadget budget :)

can anyone recommend a good PPC on the cheap? i was thinking the 1945 since i LOVE the form factor of that model (and my 4150) but maybe there's something better for around the same price? the cheapest i've found that is for about $240.

thanks a million - would love to order one today (bday coming up)

Ebay!! Or visit craigslist.org and look through the buy/sell sections to see who wants to get rid of one (there will be more than you think) - but you really can't go wrong with Ebay, there's tons of items. How about the iPaq 1930? Does your wife need wireless or bluetooth connectivity? The iPaq 1930 is just like the 1940, just doesn't have the wireless stuff built-in, but you can always buy a separate SD card for that. And all the 19XX series are pretty cheap nowadays - I found my 1930 for $75. 8)

I am a confirmed eBay user. THings to watch out for on eBay though:
1] Check the "feedback" if the seller.
2] Be sure you don't get too caught up in a bidding war with the potential of paying too much for something.
3] Also, see what the shipping charge is too.

I like my Dell Axim X5. I know many people think of it is a dinosaur in the PPC world, but depending on your wife's needs, she might like this one. The price has dropped like a rock in the last 6 months.

You can get a brand new Dell X50 for that. The low end model, but it beats the 1940 in most everything but size. Sometimes that is not a disadvantage. The one thing my wife absolutely loves on her's is the lock switch. It locks everything. In her purse, previous PPCs have turned on and the pressure on the screen from other items, even through the case has kept it on, resulting in low or dead batteries. Hasn't happened yet with the X50. It does wake up for alarms, but it does shut off according to your settings, since it doesn't respond to accidental button pushes or screen taps with the lock on.

I do understand the love of the 1940/4155 form factor though. Had HP stuck WM2003SE and a VGA screen on my 4155, I'd have bought that.

I'll just second that the x50/x50v form factor is quite nice.

And I third that :)
The shape of the x50 is simply .. too sexy.
Those curvy bottoms ...
