with all these ipods, and ipod knockoffs... why hasnt a phone been released yet which includes a multi-gigabyte harddrive? or even a regular old pda with one for that matter?

they've got portable media centers now.. why did that idea come before putting a hard drive in a pda? is it just so that people are forced to buy ten different devices and spend more money, or is there actually a technical reason limiting this?

im not sure if this is the right section for this topic, but i've been dieing to see what other people think about this:

my ideal phone would be similiar to the nokia communicator. a regular phone at first glance on the outside. and a full handheld on the inside.
it would include:
windows mobile 2003
~40GB harddrive
bluetooth
firewire
sdio
full keyboard
maybe wifi, maybe not
at least 1MP camera/video?
cdma version for sprint! but at least GPRS/GSM
about the same size as the communicator also..
and probably some other features that i cant think of right now

this might just be me, but wouldnt a phone like that be immensely popular? (even if its crazy expensive) and it seems like, technologically, a pretty feasible thing to design right? i mean yea the cdma thing might be too much to ask for, for whatever reasons. but besides that, am i totally off base?

is this just something which is not technically possible right now?

or did i already answer my own question... is it the price of such a device which is the limiting factor?

This has been discussed here on more than one occassion. There are quite a few reasons that it won't work out, boiling down to price, size, and power consumption. Of course it will work. No-one has just made it yet. And of course it will initially be expensive. And they wont do it right the first time.

But there is no physical reason why it wont work.

Remember what they said of the ipod before it was released.
