It all depends on what radio stations you want to listen to.

RealAudio? No go, unfortunately; the PPC version is severely crippled. Most RA stations just won't work. Reasons here: http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?threadid=96906

SHOUTcast: a few, mostly non-professional radios are using this, so don't expect a national radio corporation to have SHOUTcast streams. Mini-sized, "enthusiast" radio stations, however, often use it (see their listing at http://yp.shoutcast.com/ ). One of the best players to play SHOUTcast streams is GSPlayer ( http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA032810/ )

All in all, in most cases you'll need to use WMP because of the lack of 'official' SHOUTcast content and the useless RealOne player.

(Feel free to ask any PPC/PC-streaming-related question - I've even written a 150kchar-long article on it.)
