Sorry to show my newbie status so blatantly but I have always wondered what it was.

The .NET CF is embedded into your device and allows you to run Pocket PC programs written using the .NET CF and its class libraries. Some programs out there make use of it, so having this on-board will give you that functionality. Most WM2003 and WM2003SE devices already have it installed, but this is an update you can install to cure it of any bugs, etc.

Think of it as the compact version of the .NET Framework you probably have installed on your PC.
