The two coolest gifts I received include:

A new Microsoft fingerprint reader. This thing allows you to input passwords by using the fingerprint reader. So when you need to log in to a site, rather than manually inputting a password, you simply touch the fingerprint reader and it inputs the site-specific password for you. Of course you need to set up each site but its simple to do. It connects via USB port.

A new Siemens SX66 (Blue Angel) from Cingular. This thing will take some time to set and learn.

The best gifts, though, were something more important. Like the commercial says, trinkets, doo-dads, and clothes you're never going to wear, MasterCard. Family and friends, priceless.

At long last my 4700 arrived. Charging now before working out where to install everything (cursed 64Mb of RAM).

But then a young lady thought it was sensible to park up in the middle of a snowy mountain road and caused me to swerve to avoid her which resulted in me hitting another car, destroying the front left wing of my brand new Audi A3 Sportback.

Needless to say, the Christmas spirit has left me and has been replaced with a most un-festive desire to do bodily harm to several people. Not even my spanking new handheld can raise a smile.

Bah humbug.

Seeing as how we're cheap here in Holland (we spend only 100 euros on average per person on presents, which is the second-lowest behind the japanese!) Santa didn't bring me any real gadget goodies. Useful stuff mostly: two CD cases (100 & 70), a pack of DVD-R's, two stainless steel mugs, and some chocolate. Nice, but I wouldn't mind finding something like a DS under the tree, that's for sure :-(

But, since Santa was lacking, I also gave myself a nice little present :D - a Citizen Nighthawk eco-drive watch! It runs on solar energy, it tells time in normal, military or dual time zones, and it has a full E6B flight computer! (yes, very geeky!)

Got a travel case for my golf clubs, so that I can avoid unintentional (or deliberate) damage to my 'sticks' when traveling. Now, I just need to start traveling more...

Got several books, and some magazine subscriptions (Golf magazine and Backpacker magazine) - believe, it or not, I still haven't bought or read "The Da Vinci Code", but my mom got that for me as part of our family gift exchange, so now I can join the millions of others who have read it.

Best fun of the day was watching the kids open their gifts; after my wife and I agonized for weeks about what to get the kids, it appears that we chose well. So a happy christmas was had by all!

Santa?! You guys gotta be careful... Dec. 24th, on the eve before Christmas, I woke up in the middle of the night to find Santa coming down our living room chiminey. But when he came through and noticed the large crucifix right across from him on the living room wall above the TV set, he flinched, started hissing, exposed his demonic fangs, eyes turned pitch black (as if he had no soul), spoke probably some foul ancient language I could not understand, and then quickly evaporated into red mist that escaped back up the chiminey along (w/his bag) that created a quick tremor that shook the house. I know now that Santa is a demon. So I should warn all of you who would like to keep your souls to be careful!

Materially I received everything I could possible want--a new laptop--family photo of my children--dinner with family and friends.

Emotionally, I'm asking for your prayers and thoughts for a friend from my school (I'm a teacher). On Tuesday she was notified that she lost her only son to the tragedy in Mosul. Obviously she is in an extreme emotional state and she needs the prayers and thoughts of others.
Her tragedy has made me realize how petty I can be and that I truly need to count all my blessings. I've been bawling because my son is moving to Noth Dakota--and she no longer has a child.

May all of yours be safe. I wish all a happy and prosperous New Year.

HX4700, 1GB SD card, MN Zoo membership, Civ III Ultimate Collection, $10 gift card for Best Buy, various cash from my relatives that will prob go towards either season 5, 6, or 7 of Star Trek: TNG on DVD. I swear Paramount really is screwing over ST fans with the price of their DVD sets.

Ed, thanks for your kind words. My Audi is being trucked down the mountain today...it had to spend a few nights at a Subaru garage while Audi GmbH collectively sobered up. Mr Subaru says it should just be a new wing...but...well...for me it will never be the same again.

kcwester, awful to hear that. We all see it on the news and often feel quite remote and detached, and when it comes closer it must be terrible.

Now juni, I have been watching your blog and happen to know you got your 4700 a while ago...so we want 2005 to be the year of VGA (skins)! There's no letup you know... ;)

I had a great Christmas. Very restful, just what I needed. And it snowed yesterday! Too bad it couldn't have been a day earlier, but it's better than nothing!

Anyway, I got:

- Clothes (my mom and sister felt the need to redesign my wardrobe. I'll be stylin' now!

- MYST IV: Revelation (I'm thrilled about this one)

- Some books and CDs

- A Mustang evolution poster

- And....the big present that I'm syched out of my mind about.....a brand new, shiny silver, Sony Handycam DCR-HC30 MiniDV camcorder. My old JVC was so unreliable that I was forced to borrow cameras when I needed to do a video project. This goes well with the present I bought myself at Thanksgiving: Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus. Very cool.

I've "only" got some home-made socks, home-made wallpapers etc. from relatives/friends. It's highly customary in Finland to make presents by hand just like these. Our flat is full of home-made Finnish stuff, received as gifts from our relatives :)

Well, after working Christmas Eve and Christmas, I spent the time with the family and had a grand old Christmas. In addition to the standard fare of new clothes and chocolates, I got:
· A Canon PowerShot A400 (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=10630) (3.2 Megapixel digital camera that uses my favorite, SD cards [and a new 256 MB card to boot])
· The new Cranium Turbo Edition (http://www.cranium.com/cranium%5Fgames/craniumturboedition/) (so much more fun than the last incarnations!)
· Half-Life 2 (care of my significant other, a game with a gravity-gun)
· My very own Robosapien (http://www.robosapienonline.com/)! I can't wait to hack into him with my PDA.
A meager offering, perhaps, but it was one of the best Christmases of my life. And I now have a camera to capture future Christmases :)

My duaghter is only 2 1/2. She gave me . . . joy :)

My wife created me a "Cat Box Sulpture Gardens" calendar.

She picked up a cat box, litter and a ton or Tootsie Rolls to create such greats as Crap-Henge (stone henge made from Cat Poo). and Poo-Bah (turds with a boo-bah in the middle).

Throw in some actual cat box creations like HELP ME from friends. I now have a story to tell when anyone comes to my desk at work.

This hast to win something.

Just so I can satisfy my morbid curiosity.. How old were you again Honda? :D

Those R/C cars are getting better and better all the time. I wish I had one when I was a kid. Of course, now that I'm 22, I could afford a really cool r/c helicopter.... Hmmmmm.... ;-)

Hah! Yes, I am 17.5 (almost 18 :) ) and I love the gas R/C cars. So much cooler than Radioshack :) . My brother wanted to get into the R/C helicopter, but he decided that there is too much wind for a little electric one and the gas ones are dangerous if you crash them!

Strange... everyone else ignored the other DVD sets I suggested would make good gifts...

After I got a new Seimens SX66 (with wifi, bluetooth, etc) my wife let me buy my own christmas present, an Acura MDX with navigation and BLUETOOTH!!!! It linked right up with my phone, but then the car said my phone didn't have "service". Not sure what that meant. After talking with Acura it seems my phone (iMate, Qtek9090, Seimens SX66, etc) is NOT compatible with the automotible bluetooth systems. If it is true, it is a serious bummer. I also got the Sony Ericcson HBH-660 headset because it has caller id, but the caller ID feature doesn't work with the phone, nor does the ability to use my voice recognition via the headset. Not enough standards in place I guess.

I received the following:

- Wacom Graphire3 USB Tablet with Pen and Mouse
- SanDisk 512 MB SecureDigital Card
- Creative Nomad NuVo 128 MB USB MP3 Player/USB Flash Disk
- Halo 2 Limited Edition

I also received $20 from my co-workers with which I bought:

- USB Mobile Docking Station (3 Port USB Hub + PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse Adapter)

This was a sad christmas though :( I had to spend it without my iPaq h5455, which I sent away on 12/09/2004, and was supposed to be back on 12/20/2004. I am sitting here on 01/01/2005 and still nothing. Never know what you got till its gone. Right now I am using an old HP Jornada 548. Oh, so this is why I bought a new Pocket PC.

Halo 2 is GREAT!! I already played through Halo 1 and Halo 2. Now I might get Half-Life: 2.

I am on gadget overload at the moment:

Canon EOS 10D
Archos Gmini 220
Blue Angel
Zalman Reserator 1 (http://www.1coolpc.com/resorator.htm)

On the negative side, I now have to figure out to power all of this stuff without burning the house down.

That's been my biggest worry for about 5 years, myself! With 4 computers, 1 laptop, all the peripherals and wireless conections, battery-powered cellphones, cameras, handhelds, etc... it's no wonder my electric bill is climbing by the second.

Another thread on this site is about predictions for 2005... I'd like to see someone come up with a better way to route power through a house, so you don't end up running 15 devices through one outlet and a power core! Break out the marshmallows... any second now...

Well, I got the "I Robot" DVD, "Spiderman II", some lotions and scents, a gold necklace from my oldest son's girlfriend and mother with the little golden birthstone kids (something I never got from my own kids, and I have 4!)....gift certificates, and so on.
My gifts to myself: a 512 sd card for my HP IPaq 2215 (I've got a 128 card which I use for music and stuff...figure I'll now use one of the cards solely for music) and I just ordered a wireless sd card...can't wait to try this out since I live in NYC by NYU as well as tons of Starbucks with wireless hotspot access. Hope it runs easily and efficiently, or I guess I will be posting back here asking about what to do!
Happy New Year to all.
Peace :way to go:

My birthday is a couple of weeks before Christmas, so my presents are usually combined for both occasions.

Presents to myself:
My own one-bedroom apartment in eastern Sydney (best present yet!)
Sex and the City complete series box set
The Office complete box set

Presents from other people:
Gift voucher to David Jones (which I used to buy 3 Egyptian cotton towels)
Money from relatives (used to buy myself an Xbox!)
New blinds from my apartment
New light fixtures for my apartment
A microwave and toaster
White gold anklet
Stuffed toys (never outgrew those!)
New timber floors for my apartment

So not much in the way of gadgets this time round
:D

There better be a good broadband service with that. :P

My philosophy behind residential purchases are: "look for broadband, and then hope for a decent place", as opposed to "look for a decent place, then hope for good broadband". ;)

Two Spiderman DVDs and Spiderman 2 (and I've been informed there is also a duplicate of Spidey 2 that I haven't received, yet LOL)
The Hulk DVD
The collection of the first 6 Star Trek movies on DVD
Star Trek: Nemesis DVD
Star Trek: Enterprise crew poster (the only series poster missing from the kitchen wall)
Turkish bath robe ( been wanting one for years)
Neverwinter Nights Platinum
CompUSA & Regal Cinemas gift cards (between the CUSA card & the extra Spidey DVDs, I think I see a new hard drive in my future!)
I bought myself the Knights of the old Republic for Xbox
Spare pen for my ViewSonic V1250 TabletPC
Snowman stoneware serving platter

Mr. Mage received a PC to replace the one which died a few months ago. A group effort between our friends and me, it's a 2.2gHz celeron with a gig of RAM. He's not used it yet, because I told him I wouldn't set it up, until he cleaned his desk...and he has yet to clean his desk.

Another group effort netted a friend an Xbox and Halo 2. It was Mr. Mage's idea, and an excellent one, don't you think?
