View Full Version : What PC games would you like to see on a PocketPC?

I was just looking over PocketHumanity, a PPC version of the Civilization clone FreeCiv, and I wondered. What other desktop PC games would people like to see on a PocketPC?

My first choice would be Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. I love that game, and being able to play it anywhere... well, I'd probably starve to death in short order, but I'd die happy. Since it's mostly mouse-based, it would also translate well to a stylus. Even better, if someone wanted to port it, almost all of the game files are already openly readable text and PCX graphics, so all you would have to do is recreate the game app itself. And it's resource-friendly, with the desktop version running on as little as a Pentium 120 MHz... Can we get a developer in here? :devilboy:

Well, what say you? Got a favorite game you'd like to see on the small screen?

I would love to see Sid's Railroad Tycoon ported over to the PPC platform. Even the graphically primitive version 1.0 would keep me busy forever.

Roller Coast Tycoon would be fun, too.

The old Police Story and Larry Quest games from Sierra!

Without a doubt 0X

I just thought of another one: the Tex Murphy series! I would love to play Martian Memorandum and Under a Killing Moon again (they don't run on an XP machine anymore).

Hmm. According to NTcompatible Martian Memorandum runs on XP... Under A Killing Moon is only listed as "partly" compatible. VDMSound (for sound/driver compatibility) also has Martian Memorandum as compatible with their program if you delete a file.

I know that for me the one game I would love to see ported to the PPC is Age of Empires 2. It is almost a year now since my hopes were raised by THIS (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24933&highlight=age+empires) front page story. But, unfortunatley, like so many other similiar stories nothing seems to have come of it.

Oh well - Pocket war is keeping me more than amused at the moment. And I really must get around to downloading PocketHumanity

I'd like to see a C&C port to the Pocket PC. Perhaps Red Alert - that was always a classic. :)

Ahhh - now that would indeed be a classic!

Speaking of classics - if only the rumoured project to port Warcraft had been for real...

I don't know about Warcraft, but after seeing this picture in a thread a couple of months ago, I'd sincerely like a Starcraft port:

X-com: UFO Defense. Highly addictive classic, now abandonware, so free for the PC! Started playing it again last week, makes me feel like a kid again. :-D

XWing.

Ahh... Good memories. Only shame about X-Wing is that it never got an update with the snazzier VGA graphics and improved controls TIE Fighter did.

I would love a submarine game where the player is in the control room of a sub with various ship controls to use, radio, radar and sonar data sensors to monitor, and weapons to deploy.

I'd love to see the old Apogee/Id games ported, especially the Commander Keen series. Jazz Jackrabit and Earthworm Jim would be fun as well. :)

I'd love to have an RPG (preferably with network multiplayer support) on the caliber of Neverwinter Nights (http://nwn.bioware.com) ported to the Pocket PC, but the storage and graphics requirements to make it possible are probably beyond anything that's currently possible with today's Pocket PCs. As fun as Arvale (http://www.arvale.com/) and Pocket EverQuest (http://) are, they come nowhere near the complexity and enjoyment of PC-based RPGs such as NWN. A game using the D&D d20 (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35) system would be extremely cool!

Sorcery PDA (http://www.sorcerypda.com/) was a good start, but development seems to have stopped and the game was never really finished. This irritated many who purchased the game with the expectation that it would be completed in pieces as time went on. I like the third-person RPG style, and Neverwinter Nights and its various expansion packs is one of the best games I have ever played. It has a rich, solid plot with many optional side quests.

You know - that bit of wishful thinking is a reality with Pocket Sarien (http://sarien.sourceforge.net/). :)

Halo and Conkers Quest.
Oh wait, those are already in the works.

Thanks, Ripper, I've had a look; definitely still rough, and the website's all in Russian so there's no telling when it'll be finished, but definitely shows promise. :-)

Star Wars: Rebellion

Has very low graphics requirements
relatively small
highly addictive

the only problem I see is the ammount of info that has to be displayed on screen at one time

It is finished enough to use... it actually works... and the game is in english... I had it on my device for about 30 minutes to see if it was in working order... there are a few missing screens but the main one seems to be working fine. I lasted about 3 minutes... I have forgotten alot about the game...

It's finished enough to have a go, but you only have access to a random combat map, none of the geoscape strategy and basebuilding which actually makes up about 2/3rds of the game. It looks great, and it's cool to have a play with it, but they've still got a lot of work to do. :-)

Battle Isle 1 would suit a Pocket PC perfectly, especially if it supported two player over bluetooth. The Amiga version was the definitive one though!
