Cingular has begun selling the Siemens SX66, their branded version of the HTC Blue Angel Pocket PC Phone, in some markets. As a quick review, the Blue Angel is a quadband GSM Pocket PC Phone running WM2003SE, has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, an integrated slide-out thumbboard, and 128MB of RAM. <br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20041211-CingularSX66.jpg" /><br /><br />Unfortunately, the website is cookied, so you'll have to go to cingular.com manually and navigate from there. I also found that specifying a NYC zip code displayed the phone, while a suburb's zip code did not, so presumably it's either not yet available everywhere or it's still propagating through their database.

Feh! For $550 I would expect a VGA display. Perfect timing this. I just signed up with Cingular on Thursday after freeing myself from the shackles of Verizon and its niche CDMA network. PDA Phone options like this device are the very reason why I made the switch. I want the ability to own cutting edge phones, or at least have some variety. And since handset makers target the GSM market that's where the best phones are.

Right now I'm not sure which direction of PDA phone I want to go; Treo 650, a PPCPE like this Siemenns model, or a Windows Mobile Smartphone like the Audiovox SMT5600...which I highly covet. At this point of indecision I opted for a Sony-Ericsson T637. At least it offers Bluetooth so I can connect to the web via my PDA. That should hold me over until I make the BIG switch.

Off-topic: Anyone else here using the T637 care to give me some feedback?

Well, I've been using the PDA2K for about a month now and I think it's a great device. Yes, I wish it had VGA, it would really make this the ultimate geek device. I also really wish it had EDGE technology, as surfing via GPRS is tiresome at best.

Verizon is offering the CDMA version of this device through business channels already, and it supports EV-DO. If that high speed wireless goodness was supported in my area I would probably give up the Phone Freedom of the GSM world for true HI-Speed wireless.

One word of caution for those drooling over this device, buy a second battery... :devilboy: You'll use it that much!!!

I was looking on the cingular site and it states "Cingular Xpress Mail Suite: Real-time access to your corporate and personal e-mail " for it. Does anyone know how this works with the PPC? Is it push, or do you need to down load every so ofter? Is it something you can install on your work PC to have the email sent (meaning it doesn't require some enterprise software to be installed where I work)?

The GSM version isn't edge enabled.

IMO, this was the worst time to leave VZW if you're in an area with EvDO. Currently they offer it unlimited for $45 a month. It's possible that you can access through your minutes but that's to be determined as well. www.pdaphonehome.com has a section on there forums dedicated to the this device in all it's incarnations.

I could try and get the non-camera version right now (through B2B) but I'm going to hold off until the camera version is available. I would like to think this month but at worst, January.

looks like a very nice unit.

but its odd that we arent seeing any 240x240, 480x480 or VGA phones yet.

How much will this cost in the US without a subscription to cingular?

I'm using t-mobile and I'm not gonna switch to cingular for this device. Will it work with my t-mobile SIM card? Is is SIM-locked?

Foo, what kind of info are you looking for? I went from an LG 5550 and wired connection (SPCS) to a 637 and BT (Cingular) last summer. The no-cable flexibility is great, but the GPRS is only about half of Sprint's data speed. WRT the phone as a standalone device, I think it's great.

I'm in Miami ... according to their website:

If I have time I'm going to check it out later today,

According to my friend at the Cingular store the phone is not sim locked just like the mpx220. So it will work with T-Mobile.

I really love this from factor and I am very seriously thinking about getting one. My freind said that they have hit the distribution center and may be here as early as this Friday. He is going to call me when they get in. Their only gonna get 3... 8O

I really wonder if any of the bluetooth problems that eveyone is having with their PDA2Ks have been addressed with this unit. I know Cingular is very picky about what they release on their network.

I don't think $550 is too expensive. It's the same price as most new pocket pcs and this one has a phone in it too.

I would like to know how it works before I get one but i really want one. ;)
I'll have to make sure I can bring it back if i have major issues with it. I've ready heard that my targus IR keyboard will not work with it. I think that is a 2003 SE problem though.

I hope it uses the wid/broadcomm bluetooth stack. I don't think they would have changed it since the other pda2ks use it.
Also anyone know if it supports LEAP for the wifi? I have software for that but it would be nice if it were built in.

I just got mine last night at a Cingular store in Seattle. The only store that got one from what I can tell. They weren't supposed to sell it, but the manager was cool. Anyway, it is everything I was promised. I paid $549 and switched to a Cingular plan off the old AT&amp;T network, which angered me, but the SIM card is a new technology so I had to. I could have bought the iMate for $850 unlocked and kept my plan, but it just wasn't worth it because Cingular will support this one. They would not give me lock-line insurance, though, which is upsetting. The slide out keyboard is just a tad loose, but I think it is supposed to be. The wifi and bluetooth work perfectly. I had the Seimens SX56 for the last two years, and this was worth the upgrade!

Yeah! I got mine Wednsday night. Same deal.. This is the only store in springfield mo that got one and only ONE. But I went last week and talked to a guy i know there and he said he would call me as soon as one came in but they weren't expecting them until next week sometime.
I didn't realize until that night that it this model doesn't have a camera built in to it... :( I use my camera phone soooooo much. It really bothered me. But I did some shopping online yesterday and found that the cameraed version from over seas sells for $850-999.... 8O So I think i'll be ok with $550 plus $79 for an SD camera if i really have to have one that bad. ;) $350 is a lot to pay just to have a built in camera. Besides this phone is unlocked as well. It works just fine with my friends T-mobile sim. Cingular it very nice in not locking some of their phones. The moto mpx220 is not locked either. :)

This is my first ppcpe and i am loving it! I have wanted one since they were just rumors back in 2000/2001 but there has never been one that was a decent ppc before. they were always old technology. Yeah i know this one uses the last generation processor but it has more ram than any of the new ppcs! *cough* dell, hp *cough*
That, to me, is more important than a faster processor. At least right now. 128MB of ram and a 46MB file store! What am i gonna do with all this space?! ;) Oh i'm sure i'll find something. :)

This has to be one of the coolest toys i've ever bought! :)
And i got my early addopter fix too! I'm the first one in southwest missouri to have one. *happy geek dance*
