Hi,

what PPC software can you recommend that offers real VGA support (i.e. that actually uses highres).

What I've seen so far:
- RepliGo (great, e.g. Powerpoint slides are much more readable than in QVGA)
- Pocket Informant (e.g. more details in week-view, though standard icons are very small)

I still haven't found a decent internet browser (NetFront doesn't support highres except for Toshiba?) or file explorer (I love Resco, but it doesn't support highres).

What are you favorite VGA apps?

Cheers,
teq

Hands down, Pocket Informant is the best third-party software I use which has full VGA support. With VGA, the month view is actually usable. I use the 18x18 VGA icons from the Square Icon set (http://www.pocketinformant.com/p_iconsets.php), which is really great. The latest version of Bejeweled (http://www.astraware.com/ppc/featured/bejeweled/) is also VGA compatible with great high-res graphics and works in both portrait and landscape modes. (Though the way they provide landscape support by simply scaling the game board down is a bit lame.)

Yup, agreed on PI and Repligo. They're both fantastic with VGA.

The two major image viewers (Resco Photo Viewer and Spb Imageer) benefit big time from hires as does BetaPlayer (VGA videos at 30fps are absolutely jaw-dropping!).

Excel/PlanMaker are far more valuable with VGA resolution than with QVGA. ListPro benefits in the same way once you shrink down the font size.

Combining PIE with SE_VGA in landscape mode makes for a wonderful browsing experience (definitely need the 4" screen to make the most of that)! In fact, PIE goes from being just of recreational use to being an absolute killer-app for me when utilizing SE_VGA.

Overall, VGA support is just a killer feature. The PPC is truly serving as a laptop replacement in a wide variety of situations now.

Have you tried GSFinder+ (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34371)? I believe it supports VGA.

Come to think if it, I'm not sure the original statement is true. I use Resco as my file explorer and it's 100% functional with smooth, VGA icons to match.

I do wish they allowed me to shrink the font down further to make better use of the VGA resolution, but I've had no problems otherwise.

This might be a case of installing the wrong version or not installing the most recent version. If I'm not mistaken, they have a PPC2k2, WM2k3, and WM2k3SE version with the latter meant to support HiRes.

Has anyone seen a VGA version of Freecell (or a whole solitaire set including Freecell)? My eyes aren't great, so I always found the cards hard to read in QVGA, even on a 5500. I've tried a couple of versions on my 4700, but they weren't optimized for VGA, and didn't work with Tweaks2k2, so they looked even worse than on the 5500.

Try King Sol Solitaire 2004 (http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?productType=2&optionId=1_2_2&jid=ACA2D899929X17X334AFD6BXAF5AFCCF&platformId=2&siteId=1&productId=18155&sectionId=0&posit=25&catalog=30&txtSearch=king+sol). :)

I don't think it is optimized for VGA. Graphics are clear enough but not perfect. I have fun playing it though. Trial is available at Handango. You can play 40 games on the trial.
