They both have a very nice round shape, with a beautiful metal finishing. Both versions come with Bluetooth, a slider keyboard and both have cameras. But similarities stop here. The GPRS version has wireless LAN capability, while the CDMA version comes with a built-in flash for use with its camera."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20041122-Harrier.jpg" /><br /><br />Geekzone's review of the product is an interesting read, and may be of benefit to those who were thinking of hooking up to the new 3G network established by Telecom New Zealand.

I just simply want to leave JAPAN for NZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good lord I am using both W-CDMA and EV-DO since (2 and 1 year each) in Japan bust still no Smartphones here ! Only these stupid and boring mobile phones for and designed only for girls with stupid 3D Sound and Camera. Honestly I want ONE like this from NZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just have to wait that a W-CDMA version comes to Europe... like this ghost XDA iV is amazing specs that in fact may just be a fake... :(

Ok I got a deal with all NZ readers here ! I send you whatever you want from JAPAN for one of these... I only send stuff older than 18 years old (JOKE !)

Verizon reps are saying this phone will be available in the US (the EV-DO enabled version) near the week's end, and now Cingular is also circulating a 20 page flyer showing this phone as the Siemens X66, so it's probably coming from them soon too.

Thank you SO much for that... really...

I actually had the good fortune to win one of these at a Windows Mobile User Group meeting here in Wellington a couple of weeks ago, a few days after the launch (Mauricio was there demonstrating some new devices - anyone who reads Geekzone will know he gets to play with lots of nifty toys :) ).
I'd just bought an hx4700 a couple of months before, so between the two I'm covered.
The only real drawback is the cost of mobile voice and data plans here. I'll have to watch my usage because of that, but so far I'm very pleased with the Harrier. I always cradle a Pocket PC when I'm not using it, so I don't really have a problem with the battery life (although my PC desk at home is starting to look like a fighter jet cockpit).
I like the format enough that if I manage to get another job in Europe as I hope I'll definitely be in the market for a Blue Angel.
Last thought on software development (I've already deployed my .Text blog editor to the Harrier): For Pocket PC Phone Edition devices you obviously want to minimise the data traffic, which is a good argument for the smart client model, although HTTP compression would be a good idea.

The Siemens X66 is the GPRS version (HTC Blue Angel) of this, so don't expect much more than 48kbps on that one :(.

Yes, that was a good show. We had tons of Windows Mobile jackets, a couple of memory cards with readers, and software. Telecom gave us one of these Harriers to give away since the meeting was on the very same week they announced the 3G network and the new Pocket PC.

About the new devices I was playing with during the user group was the Motorola MPX and MPX220 (both for February 2005 in New Zealand), the i-mate Jam and Smartphone3i (both now in New Zealand). We also did a demo of the Zen Portable Media Center.
