400 and 405 - the 400 is missing programs

I just bought a used 400 - works fine upgraded to win se - no problems. This one is a gift for my son. I already own a 405. When i compare the 2 machines there are a few programes missing.

1. Voice recorder
2. Home

seems kind of strange because i assumed that both these programs wer part of the operating system. When i upgraded the windows on the 400 i didn't check to see if both these programs were on the before i upgraded.

Is this normal? How do i install them where do they come from?

Hello there, I own an e400, and comes with WM2003. All of them have Home and Voice Recorder. Did it disappear after you installed WM2003 second edition? It might be a software glitch. Let me know. :mrgreen:

I can't be sure if the 400 was missing programs before the upgrade to SE. I just assumed that since i had a 405e and the 400 was the same machine without some software, i just looked at it and everything seemed ok.

But i never went over the maching thoroughly before so i can't be sure if they were missing. I have since checked it out a little more carefully and found that

1. the "Home" button doesn't link to home,

2. the Voice recorder is missing but i can record thru notpad,

3. world clock is missing

seems strange. I can live without them but where did they go. The missing home button is really strange. I have searched windows dir with explorer for an .exe file because it exists on my e405 and it doesn't exists at all on the 400.

You are suppose to record with Notepad... but Home doesn't link to Home? And world clock isnt there? I assume that those software came built in with WM2003, and since u installed the WM2003SE, It's not a default software.

actually i didn't uninstall the windows se i installed it

I then couldn't find these programs. The problem was i didn't know if the 400 came with those programs like my 405e did.

My e400 (and all the other one) comes with Home and world clock. The only difference is that the e405 comes with the arcsoft photo editing program on a CD.
