The third entry in our Special Series is “The Mouse” by H.H. Munro, better known to his fans as Saki. Munro wrote during the First World War, and actively served in the British military. While never reaching literary fame under his own name, his short stories penned under Saki were extremely well-received, particularly due to his twist endings and nasty ironies. “The Mouse” is a tale of a proper man trying to deal with a mouse that has climbed up into his clothing, and his attempts at removing said mouse while sharing a train car with a woman. His eventual disrobing in front of the woman is hysterical, and a certain twist at the end puts an even better exclamation point on his story. Our Reading List celebrates the works of Saki, while also not overlooking the contributions of many other rats and mice to the world of ebooks.
