I've tried several alternatives to Pocket Windows Media Player for listening to my burned CDs as WMA files at the highest sound quality allowable. I'm critical of the sound quality and am happy to say that the latest release of Pocket Music easily wins my wallet. The sound quality is as good as one can expect from a PDA. Further, it's got some great advantages that appeal to me like large buttons and landscape mode, easy access to volume control and clear view of artist and song. What more can you ask for at the gym? lol

I've been on many posts in this subject and discussed the sound quality issue with some of you in the past so I know a lot of you have your favorite media software but all I can say as a music industry professional is that it's worth the free download to try this: http://www.pocketmind.com/pmfp.htm

I wonder how that new HP Bluetooth stereo headset sound??

You're saying that Pocket Music sounds better than Windows Media Player at decoding WMA files, not counting any sort of EQing? That doesn't seem to make much sense...the WMA codec they're using is developed by Microsoft, isn't it?

Not at all. I've been using Windows Media Player because nothing sounded as good as it until now (my opinion). What I prefer about Pocket Music is that it's more user friendly as described above. I believe that the features I listed above are important to people who use their PDA as frequently as I do for music playback and are not addressed in any of the versions of Media Player.

What started this was when I went to www.WindowsMedia.com to find some old skins for larger buttons. The links no longer existed at that time. Then I saw a link in my PDAs Journal Bar listing the current release of Pocket Music. I was dissatisfied with WMA playback in the past and decided to try it again. Now it sounds great.

You aren't activating any bass enhancement features or EQs in PocketMusic, are you? The interface may be improved, but I don't think that the WMA sound quality would be any more enhanced. Not that I doubt you - if you've conducted tests, and feel as though it is of a better quality, then I suppose I have to believe you on that one, but a lot of media player packages out there make use of the WMA codec provided by MS. I'm not 100% sure what Pocket Music uses - I might make it a task to investigate that one day. :D

Indeed. :way to go:

However, the only thing that's preventing me from making it my primary player is the lack of WMA support. Other than that, it's a fantastic application.

Big problem with PocketMusic is that the whole app needs to be installed in main memory. There is NO support for storage cards.

I am now using the freeware WinamPAQ which has far better playlist mgt then anything.

Winamp for your PPC.

I don't know about that - I've got the PocketMusic Bundle, and the the Playlist Organizer is just gnarly. The sponsored article (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/articles.php?action=expand,34424) that came out today has a screenshot and a brief description. I think it's better than any other playlist manager, and I've used 'em all. :way to go:

You are talking about PocketMusic Bundle not PocketPlayer.

Again the BIG issue with PocketMusic is the way it ALL has to be loaded in main memory not on a SD card.

Oops - thanks for the tip. Fixed my first post. I've always installed my players in main memory, as I have more than one storage card, and all have music on them. Installing in main memory centralizes things nicely. I'm not saying that it wouldn't be nice to install to a storage card, just that I'd never do it.
