Ringtone switch to speaker when earpiece is connected

I permanently have my earpiece connected to my iPAQ h6315. Trouble is that for an incoming call the first few rings go to the earpiece before switching to the speaker. What happened, though, is that by the time I pick up the call - after being alerted through the speaker - the call drops (i.e. goes to voice mail).

Had a look through the various menus and can't find any settings to change this. HP has told me that this can't be changed - something I find hard to believe.

Any solutions to this (other than removing the earpiece after every call)?

HP are correct. Whether the phone rings in the earpiece or the speaker is a fixed part of the phone programming. Different manufacturers take different views of what should happen, so some ring the earpiece and some the speaker. You are stuck with HP's choice.
