You know you might have been a victim of this if your Zune shuts down and the Zune logo appears and re-boots itself. Today, it happen to me.. kind of. While i was on the train on my way to work, my Zune suddenly shut down. I didn’t if it was a battery thing or not, so i checked it. I clicked the play button and the Zune turned on, but it wouldn’t display an image. The screen remained black, but you could tell it was on, because some of the lighting."

Well, it's never happened to me [knocks on wood again], so I guess I'm lucky, though I did have a Zune issue myself recently that I'll be posting on soon. In any case, if your Zune decides to up and quit one day and your PC no longer recognizes it, pinksage at generationzune has the answer: Hold the back and up button together for a few seconds to awaken the beast.

Hmmm... interesting issue. This will be worth keeping an eye on, even though I've not experienced any random shutdowns myself.

TWICE!

Once on the way in this morning, and again on the way home tonight.

I was listening to a new playlist so I don't know if it is specific to certain tracks, but I will be experimenting over the next few days....

Had the same situation happen to me. It appears this sudden shut down, pause for 10 seconds, then reboot happened on the same track and time interval. i reburned the song yet have not gone back to see if that cured the problem. Hope this helps.

Nope. I have now experienced that the spontaneous shutdown/reboots happen on different tracks/playlists. I think it is definitely DRM overhead crushing the processor/OS....or maybe the battery...most likely due to power requirements (underpowered battery?!?)

As an aside, the skipping is MAJOR as well...WHEN MOBILE.

But I just hooked up my A/V dock at home a couple of days ago and have discovered that I can run for extended periods without skipping OR reboots (while playing the same tracks/playlists that caused problems while mobile).

I can only assume the powered (tethered) operation allows the firmware to bypass all powersaving features and run all out...resulting in a properly operating device...

I believe it is definitely a bug...
