Across all the Thoughts Media websites, many of you may have known me by the pseudonym, DJ Apod. Well, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Darius Wey, a technology aficionado of colossal proportions, and the newest Contributing Editor-in-Training here at Pocket PC Thoughts.

I live in Perth, Western Australia - the most isolated city in the world! I am a student doctor and I love my gadgets. So when I'm not out there trying to save lives, I'm out there laying my hands on the latest technology available. :)
<!>
My first computer was the Commodore 64 (those were the days :) ). From there, I went through the progressive stages of owning every x86 computer, followed by every line of Intel Pentiums. My affection for mobile devices extends back to when I was a baby. Instead of being the typical kid that would draw on furniture, I played with a calculator instead. My first handheld was the Casio SF-6300 personal organiser - one of the first organisers to have a touchpad interface - and I still have it too! Some of my personal interests include creating and mixing music, video editing, web and graphic designing, programming and astronomy.

It’s great to be a part of the best Pocket PC website out there, and it is the readers of this website that make this place enormously special. So with that in mind, I am looking forward to working with the team and adding to the quality content that Pocket PC Thoughts already delivers. I like to think that being in a completely different time zone from the rest of the team only makes the experience all the more exciting! ;)

Aside from the editorial duties, I enjoy responding to any questions that people throw at me. So feel free to drop me a line if you’re in need of advice! You can also use the forums to ask questions – the whole PPCT community will do their best to help you out. :D

Good to meet you, Darius! :D You're always one of the first to answer questions on PPCT. Keep up the great work. :)

(Now if there were only people to answer my questions...;) seems like the last few I've posted haven't gotten a single response. oh well)

Well I guess this is your first official post in hopefully a very long tenure here at PPCT with all the other "technology aficionados of colossal proportions". And now we get the pleasure of hearing more of what you got to say. Thanks PPCT for making a great choice.

Welcome Darius!

Welcome Darius! I knew DJ Aphod wasn't your real name all along. :D

I knew DJ Aphod wasn't your real name all along. :D

Haha... Actually, if it was, I'd be worried. I only found out a year ago that the definition of "apod" is an animal that lacks feet, or a fish that lacks a ventral fin. Having that as a name would make me vulnerable to being teased by the other team members. :D

Oh crud...now that I've said it, they're probably going to spam me now. :D :spam:

The thunda from Down Unda :D

Now an OT question:

In the pic you linked to, what is the thing jutting up at an angle on the third building from the left?

It's a construction crane. The city is undergoing quite a bit of development and quite a few high-rises are being added to the skyline. That one that you're referring to has already been built, but there's a couple more that are being put up as we speak.

Hi,

Apparently there are only 1.9 Million people live in Perth. If you bump into Auntie Brenda say "Hello from me" will ya?

You can't miss 'er. She's about this tall and has got grey hair. She works in a hospital or library or something like that.

Oh THAT Auntie Brenda...sure!

1.9 million people is actually quite large for a city in Australia. As Marlof said, we're wide and open - it doesn't leave a lot of room for congestion now does it? ;)

By the way, it's a small world. I've bumped into people on the other side of the world that I don't even see in Perth. :D

Yeah... We're pretty laid back around here.

Laid Back (http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/laid_back/artist.jhtml)? Hmm... that's not the band (http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/triffids/artist.jhtml) I had in mind (http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/triffids/473245/album.jhtml) ( see track 8 ). :D

As I said before, great to have you aboard the good ship PPCT.

I really liked Perth when I visited there a few years back. Great place! I believe that it's further to Sydney than to Singapore from where you are.

I have an aunt living in fremantle. How far is that from your location ? :)
She always asked me to move there. She always say "It is very beautiful here, you should see the gorge of kalamunda, the thirteen mile flat, the hern at lexia ..."

:)

That's why we're tagged as the most isolated city in the world. At the moment, it's cheaper for me to fly to Singapore than it is to Sydney. 8)

About an hour's drive away. Fremantle's dubbed as the port city. Good "fish and chips" there. :D

Jonathon, I take it you have many more visits planned here then?

Wow another local! And a Tirffids reference in the same thread! Who'd have thought.

I live in the hills east of Perth (Glen Forrest) Apart from 6 months I spent in North Carolina in 1991 I've always lived here. (ok and my first year of life in South Africa but I don't count that) Nice city, wouldn't live anywhere else, unless the money was really good.

BTW Darius as a local, and I would assume a gadget junky, where do you tend to feed your habit? Any good local gadget dealers I should be aware of?

I guess Perth has too many aunties :)
My aunt travelled around the world quite a bit, in search of a perfect retirement place, she said. Went to new zealand, canada, guam, tahiti, etc. and she finally chose Perth.

A Pocket PC doctor... so you do know how to apply some points of sutura to a broker screen!

Btw I preferred to read your nickame above your nice avatar... it suited it very well. :D

Haha, well I suppose things change... and my name no longer has any queer meaning to it...

Unless....

I was wondering if your post was a reference to that great song by the Triffids (only one of Perth's many great musical exports!), but I thought no it was just too obsure.

Shows how wrong you can be.
