I honestly swear SD cards grow on trees in the US. :|Wonder how much one of those trees would cost. ;)

Just got my 1 GB card from eBay. $73.50 before shipping...and I figured it was a pretty good deal. Well, that's how the market works. I'll fill this one up sometime and need another though.

Backordered... Not a big suprise... But If you place your order today it will count for the rebate.

Just ordered one and had it shipped to my brother in law in NY. I hope my old XDAI can handle all that storage!!

Fry's has a special in the L.A. area until Tue, 19 Oct for the same cards. It was listed in the paper for $79, less the $30 rebate. The sales guy at the store in Fountain Valley (Orange Co.) claimed that he only had the high speed card for $89 with a $10 rebate, but was able to produce the card that was in the L.A. Times ad for $79 when I said "bait and switch". So, be aware that they may give you some grief if you go to Fry's, but they do have them in stock.

So in the grand scheme of things, how fast is this card?

I just ordered mine by phone and guy said that they will ship the 28th. The rebate applies. Can't beat this deal!

Well, I called and the guy I talked to said he didn't know when they would get them in and the order wouldn't apply for the rebate. So, I downloaded the rebate and it says "Your purchase must be made between October 15 and October 21, 2004." So, it should count. I placed my order online so we'll see. Thanks for the tip!

I hate mail-in rebates, but the price makes this a VERY tempting deal. I guess I'll just wait until I can get an instant rebate or cheap 'real' price.

I bought one of these Lexar SD cards from buy.com last week with the $30 MIR. I paid a bit more ($79.99 - $30MIR), but that's still a great deal.

Right after I received it, I plugged it into my USB 2.0 card reader and ran the SiSoft SANDRA memory card benchmarks on it. Here are the results:

I just called Outpost.com and the guy also said that the they are out of stock and the rebate won't count. He knew the part number right away so everyone must be calling. I rather not take a $30 chance.

Sorry I'm not familiar with the "#x" rating. I just remember that 10MB/sec is supposed to be 60x. So 32x is supposed to be theoretically about 5MB/sec? Just wondering.

Sounds like a good deal but I hate MIR (besides this one is unclear about applicability). Also only want high speed 10MB-20MB/sec...

I think this Lexar card is only 32x, which is about 5MB/sec. You can see the results in the post I made above. So you probably don't want to buy this card if you only want 10M-20MB/sec.

Yeah, if mine is not here in two weeks I will cancel. Odds are that Newegg or someone will have them just as cheap and in stock.

I think Fry's is a generally shady operation. Ever since they bought Outpost.com, the latter has gone downhill. :bad-words:

Just to give you all a heads up on this amazing deal. I just called outpost about my order and they told me that it was on back order. They say they'll have more in on October 27th. So if you can wait that long I say it's WORTH IT!. As far as the Rebate being no good...I can't see why everything wont be ok. Just as long as it was purchased between the specified dates on the rebate.

The guy on the phone told me that the actual buy date is the date they charge your credit card which is the ship date. So the rebate expires the 21st. So if they are shipping the 27th... well some people will be out $30.

Am I not understanding the situation correctly?

You need to send in your sales recet or invoice with purchase price. That is what you now. He is incorrect. I've been through something like this with other products too.

The two Fry's stores in the Phoenix area have these cards in stock. They cost $10 more than on outpost.com, but I got one right way, and I didn't have to pay shipping. The rebate form is already in the mail. :D

I honestly swear SD cards grow on trees in the US. :|

What kind of tree ? Maybe we should import those trees to australia and indonesia :)

This is the painful part of technology. I purchased my 1G SD cards at USD200 each, and now I have to read that it cost only $30 on the other (luckier) part of the world.

And just for comparison. The Motorola RAZR V3 and mpx220 are already available in singapore. They are priced at 'only' S$1399 (USD850) and S$1599 (USD950) consecutively.

Why cant we have a more reasonable price down here ?

Hang on...don't us two countries have a free-trade agreement going on?!? :P
Not that every part of the agreement has been clearly outlined to the public.

Okay, this has nothing to do with insane 1GB SD card prices. :multi:

Well I managed to snag a 45x 1GB off e-Bay for £42 couple of weeks ago. There was another £8 postage charge on top though. Still, I didn't think it was too shabby for 1GB 45x SD card. The card has been in use for a couple of weeks and it is nice. TomTom Nav runs maps off it real well.

Just had a quick look there and there are some different branded ones going for £47 + £7 p&p.

I still have mine on backorder. They should still honor my lower price.

I got burned a few years ago when I found a good deal on RAM. They backordered it and when the prices went back up they cancelled my order. I was VERY angry about this, the price had doubled.

Has anyone here had an experience like that on Outpost?

Am a total newbie..

I have just bought a 1GB card. The note on the packaging says
"For WinXP use, please format the card with FAT16"

I have an ipaq2210. and my desktop OS is WinXP Pro

How do I go about formatting the card, and furthermore how do I go about copying the data on my existing card (128MB) on to this new one.

Please help ( simple instructions would be really appreciated)

Thanks and regards

I assume you have a card reader/writer connected to your PC? If so, it will appear as another drive in "My Computer"; all you have to do in this case is right-click the drive and select "Format". From there, you can select what format you want it in, and its file allocation space - you can usually leave this at the default setting.

If you are looking to format this on your Pocket PC, you will need some sort of flash card dedicated software, or a piece of software that has integrated card handling abilities (such as Resco Explorer). If you want a stand-alone flash card program, I can highly recommend Flash Format by CNetX. It works very well and can also scan your card for errors when the need arises.

Thanks for your advice.

I have a card reader ( packard Bell) and connect it to PC with USB.

Do I need to format this card? or can I just use activsynch, and copy the contents of the 128MB card onto my desktop and then insert the new card into my pda and paste? Would this work?

I shall get the Resco Explorer as you suggest anyway.

Thanks and regards

Well your card should be pre-formatted out-of-the-box. So if you want, you can do it this way. But if it isn't, it probably helps to format the card (which deletes all data on it). Methods for this (via My Computer on the PC) are detailed in my previous post. 8) Hope that helps. ;)

I'd recommend FAT32 format for a 1GB SD card. Also StorageTools from http://www.softwinter.com is worth a look at for defragging, formatting and error checking removable media on your PPC.

I'd just put it in my PPC first and see if it "just works" before formatting...

except that I have now got a directory in my ipaq called /sdcard/sdcard!!!

but. all seem to work ok
