View Full Version : Essential software?

I just bought my first Pocket PC (a Toshiba e335) on eBay. It's currently sitting at my parents' home waiting for me to come pick it up (I'm away at school right now, but I have a vacation this weekend), and I'd like to know what software is absolutely essential. I'd prefer most of it to be free, but I'm willing to pay up to $20 for a really great PPC program.

SPB Plus seems to be the dominant system utility... is there anything similar (and just as useful) I can get for free?

I've already got the Theme Generator power toy installed on my desktop machine and I've already made about 10 themes (I love this thing!)

I also have a few games ready to install (just your basic minesweeper, tetris, freecell, and chess... that's all I really need for games on the PPC)

Is there anything I'm missing out on here? What other software do I seem to be overlooking?

Thanks!

I say look for the least expensive software, most likely it's only the name that makes the software be more expensive when there's a cheaper software that works just the same.

You've got plenty of choices listed, that's for sure. If you find something you're interested in, try to download a demo version first. And, if you have any questions about a specific program, post your questions here. With the thousands of readers we have, it's a safe bet that somebody's already tried it and has an opinion.

Good luck, and let us know if we can do anything to help!

Here is a list I compiled months ago... though there are probably some better apps available now... it is still a good reference list.
